---|
The chief administrative division used in Cadenza is the earldom (kerepaqa; plural kerepaqen). Each earldom is administered by a hereditary earl who rules for life. Cadenza is divided into eleven earldoms. Of these, nine are located in part or their entirety on the main island of Khade:
- Emigara, centred on the town of Emigar;
- Kerqa'ved, centred on the town of Vedkathna;
- Khadeg, centred on the island's capital, the city of Cadenza;
- Lemithri, centred on the city of Lema;
- Mefrika, the newest earldom, centred on the city of Mefra;
- Molatiri, centred on the city of Canve;
- Pammez, centred on the town of Do'rediq;
- Roakkon, centred on the city of Ro'ekha; and
- Temirka, centred on the city of Temir.
Historically Cadenza held as many as seven overseas earldoms at any one time, but in the last two hundred years it has been restricted to two:
Former earldoms
Other historical earldoms include:
- Axio (Acsia, part of modern Kelonna);
- Great Meqn, in western Azmir;
- Elagesk (part of modern Kelonna);
- Khamalb (Cadenzan Kamalbia);
- Torim Rü'aiz, a failed settlement on Insula Fera.
Constitutional role
Under the Constitution of Cadenza, the state must be divided into no fewer than nine earldoms, among which must be the earldoms Emigara, Khadeg, Lemithri, Molatiri and Roakkon. The constitution provides for the establishment of new earldoms effectively at the discretion of the earls, although this is moderated by legislation. The constitution also protects the traditional electoral systems under the earldoms' different succession laws.
