The Khotoi or Khotoi Culture were the earliest known human inhabitants of Syara. Over the course of roughly five millenia between 8,000 - 3,000 BCE the Khotoi settled the lands west of the Matra Mountains in Ruvelka. They introduced agriculture to Syara around this time, forming the first known settlements and villages across central Syara and Ruvelka. Between 2,000 to 1,000 BCE the Khotoi were gradually pushed westward further into the Galanian Valley and the coast of the Nuandan Ocean by the arrival. This migration was likely driven by the arrival of the Ruvelkans, Karvelebi, and Hayern to central Ruvelka, themselves pushed by the Erani out of central Siduri.
The Khotoi or Khotoi Culture (sometimes known as the Proto-Syarans) were the predecessors of the ancient tribes of Syara, arriving sometime between 3,000-2,000 BCE. They originally settled across north-west Siduri west of the Kurilla Mountains, before moving further west into the Makedonian Highlands and the Galanian Valley. The Khotoi dispersed across Syara over the centuries forming a number of larger, overarching tribes. They displaced, absorbed, and partially eradicated the older Segelen culture, the original inhabitants of Syara, between the 2nd and 1st Millennia BCE. The Bronze Age Collapse saw the destruction of many Khotoi-descended tribes, leaving only the Aleitians, the Gaetlii, and the Dovossians, who proceeded to settle Makedon, Galania, and Scitaria respectively.

The origin of the Khotoi is not certain. The only existing archaeological evidence suggests a central Siduri origin, but the existence of root words for "boat" and "sea" strongly indicates an origin from beyond the Sundering Sea. The Khotoi language and tribes would go on to form most of the ancient Syara tribes of Galania, Makedon, and Scitaria. The Khotoi introduced written language, pottery, and agriculture to Syara, as well as establishing the earliest known settlements in Syara.
The Khotoi were originally members of the Erani-Eracurans, theough the exact date of their divergenceis lost to history. They most likely split off from the same original group that produced the Erani and Hayren, with the Khotoi and Hayren likely having remained together longer before splitting up based on similar linguistical traits.
