Islands (Vyvlander: Iylaans, /jʏläːnz/; Namorese: Toa) is the smallest province of Vyvland, lying in the extreme southeast of the country. It is comprised of an archipelago of three main islands - Greetmion, Daydmion and Sanding - and multiple smaller ones, all of which lie east of Welland province on the mainland. Kannei Namorese and Peivet immigration to the islands has historically been prominent; the two groups have left significant cultural marks on the province, in addition to retaining a significant number of Namorese speakers in the province. The province is also the site of a Luziycan military base on the island of Syfmion, the most southerly point within the province and within Vyvland as a whole. The provincial capital lies at Brokel, in northern Greetmion, while the largest city is Persi on the island's southern shore.
Most of the islands were conquered by Stanmer in the early fourteenth century. However, each island kept a significant amount of autonomy from mainland Vyvland, with their own Iyfengs ('Island-parliaments') from the fourteenth century. This enabled it to be a centre for illegal smuggling into Vyvland. However, control and restrictions were tightened by central government in the early eighteenth century, along with a similar process in Norflaan. Much of the islands' native population left over the next century, many of whom were replaced by poor immigrants from Hào Dynasty Namor. Under the authority of South Vyvland from 1935 onwards, these groups were persecuted, while many were moved off Syfmion to accommodate a Luziycan military base. In 1996, Namor shelled Syfmion and Greetmion as part of the Third Namo-Luziycan War, in an act widely internationally and domestically condemned.
Only two islands, Greetmion and Syfmion, are connected by road to mainland Vyvland; all others must be accessed by boat or, in the case of Daydmion, aeroplane. The only way of the islands by road is via the 2300-metre-long Ynzebsbruj, formerly known as the Sankerbruj, which is Vyvland's longest bridge. There is one Vyvlubaan rail line onto the island, which leads to Persi. However, due to the island's relative isolation from major towns of Vyvland, it is poorly-used.
The current government in the province's Provincial Diet is a four-way coalition between the Namorese and Islanders, Conservative Party, Liberal Party and Capitalist-Libertarian Party. The provincial governor since 2011 has been Matelda Andsen of the Conservative Party.
