Constitution
Constitution of Garetolia

The Parliament of Garetolia (Garetolian: Aka'koha re'Karātōl'ikī) is the unicameral supreme legislature of Garetolia. It was founded on September 24, 1978. The Parliament constitutes the legislative branch of the Government of Garetolia, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities.

The Parliament consists of 65 biennially-elected members; 33 are elected from federal electoral districts, and 32 are elected in a nationwide vote based on open list proportional representation. A party must receive at least 5%, and a multi-party union at least 7%, of the national vote to qualify for the proportional representation seats.

Following the 2023 Garetolian general election, the Social Democratic Party is the largest party in the Parliament, having formed a coalition government in 2012 with the Greens; these two parties now hold a supermajority in the Parliament.

The Parliament of Garetolia has its roots in the Garetolian Council, a ten-member secessionist body that formed in 1961 amidst the Garetolian Independence Movement.
