Austland was founded as a federal prison colony and with Gustavsland so is it one of two federal realms that today is operating prison colonies as the west coast today has quite a few colonies founded by prisoners as well as army garrisons to keep the population under control. The land itself is often geographically divided into five regions, Bargen, Vasterkust akenland, asterkust and syderudde or the mountains, the west coast, the desert lands, the east coast and the southern peninsula in English. The continent itself is also the home of a large amount of deadly and horrible creatures which have earned the continent the name "Totheim" or "death's home" in English.

This is however not all the realm has to offer as it has large mining industries and exports large amounts of gold, coal, Natural gas, iron ore and diamonds and it has also managed to built a large industrial complex around those things and exports steel, jewellery, machinery and automobiles. It also has large flocks of sheep, cattle, and imported mammoths that lives on the large plains of the eastern coast that contributes to it's exports of meat, leather, and wool.

It also have a working agricultural industry and exports wheat, grains, linen, grapes, potatoes, tea, tobacco and cotton which is later on refined as well to export wine, beer and clothes.

Geography

Austland is divided into five different regions that have their own unique climates, first is Bergen that is the large mountain chain that stretches through most of the realm and it is composed by a large series of red mountains which have earned them the nickname "blodsberge" or "the blood mountains". Bordering bergen is both asterkust and akenland, Asterkust just as Vasterkust is a large grassland that borders the sea where the odd collection of trees spread out over the landscape. Akenland is just as the name implies one large desert and it covers most of the central continent. The region furthest to the south is the coldest and the wettest is Syderudde that is separated by the large Garks river from both vaster and asterkust and akenland to the north. Thanks to the wet climate and the colder temperature so is most of Syderudde covered in large lush forests.

Climate

50% of the land have a rainfall less than 800 mm per year and 20% having even less than 500 mm. As a whole, Austland has an annual average rainfall of 1000 mm. Temperatures varies widely and can reach temperatures so high as 50 degrees Celsius in the hottest summers and as cold as -10 degrees in the winter.

Flora and fauna

The dreaded Graboid is one of the largest and most dangerous predator in the realm

Austland is the home of many dangerous species as the undergrowth and sea is filled with poisonous snakes, insects, scorpions and spiders just as deadly jellyfishes swims outside of the coast.

In the southern forests so do large packs of koala bears hides in the trees so that they can drop down and attack unsuspecting victims. The large plains are not only the home of imported animals from Scandera as mammoths, Foxes, wild dogs, boars, wyverns and horses but also natives ones like kangaroos, Tasmanian Tigers and Emus while large flocks of parrots and exotic birds fills the sky and the black swans that actually have been able to move back over to Scandera.

the waters outside the realm is filled with massive numbers of fish, sharks, sea turtles, Dolphins and even smaller species of whales. But it is also the home of a large amount of reptilian species like crocodiles living in both salt and fresh waters, goannas, dragon lizards as well as numerous smaller species.

The largest predators though are found in the massive central desert with large flocks of imported camels, this is the dreaded graboids. A large subterranean predatory worm that attacks by sensing vibrations in the ground and then tunnels towards it's prey with a astonishing speed.

History

The history of Austland is short and the realm has hardly produced anything worth noticing. It was in the 14th feburary , 1791 that the continent where Austland would one day be founded on was found by a federal exploration ship, the FaKFS Langsyn, and it was claimed in the name of the high king. The first colonists that arrive were prisoners which had been condemned to create a new realm for the high king which sadly only meet with limited successes due to starvation, hostile wildlife and a nasty outbreak of cholera. It took twenty more years, until 1821 when it was reported that gold had been found and a goldrush started which save large parts of the western and southern coastal regions got settled and mining in the mountains started in earnest.

However the life was hard and it breed a strong and resilient population that have so far been able not only to survive in their homeland but also made them exemplary warriors.
