The Anarchist Federation (French: Fédération anarchiste), abbreviated AF/FA, is an anarchist federation in Gylias. It is a federation of autonomous anarchist groups, organisations, and social centres throughout Gylias, and cooperates with other organisations such as the Revolutionary Youth Union and Committees for the Advance of the Revolution.

It is one of the largest anarchist organisations in Tyran, and has a notable role in Gylian society, reflecting the strength of its anarchist movement.

History

The AF/FA was established in the Free Territories in 1940. It was part of the cooperative confederalising tendency of the Free Territories that also created the GCWUA and later the NCC.

It reunited various anarchist tendencies into a single confederation which coordinated direct action, organisation, and promotion of anarchism in the Free Territories. It formed links with the Democratic Communist Party after it was established as a vehicle for anarchist political and electoral action, but remained independent out of respect for its members who rejected voting.

The AF/FA garnered significant moral authority during the Liberation War as the largest anarchist organisation in the Free Territories. It has retained its strength and influence in post-war Gylias, playing a significant role in the Golden Revolution.

During the 1980s, it was instrumental in the establishment of People Power-Citizens' Movement as a separate party in opposition to the Progressive Alliance's participation in the Aén Ďanez government.

Organisation

The AF/FA is an anarchist federation run on horizontal, collective and autonomous principles. As an anarchist organisation, it is reserved the right to use black as an official colour by Elections Gylias.

Its membership includes numerous anarchist organisations and groups, including social centres, affinity groups, movements, unions, associations, and committees. It has ties with the GCWUA, NCC, RYU, and CAR.

It also has links with anarchist parties such as the DCP, LSL, FSP, PP-CM, FVU, LND, RFS, and UI, but remains officially uninvolved in electoral politics, instead functioning as a pressure group without party affiliation.

The AF/FA is engaged in direct action, agitation, promotion of anarchism, political and social campaigns, community self-organising, and mutual aid. It publishes the newspaper Free Gylias, and runs the radio station Radio Libertaire.

As a reunion of various anarchist currents, it broadly follows synthesis anarchism principles in organisation, with some platformist tendencies. Its overall orientation is social anarchist. Ideologies range from social anarchism to Gylian market anarchism. It rejects anarcho-capitalism and national anarchism as fundamentally opposed to anarchism.

The AF/FA's goals of both encompassing the diversity of Gylian anarchist viewpoints and being a well-organised anarchist force have produced some internal tensions, although the federalist organisation has prevented serious splits. Differences include insurrectionary anarchism versus non-insurrectionary anarchism, models of economic organisation, and domestic versus international focus of activity.
