He previously served as Chancellor of Montgisard from 2013 to 2019. Throughout his political career he served in various offices throughout Montgisard. In 2012, he inherited the Montfort knighthood and a hereditary seat in the Montgisense House of Lords.

He was the first elected mayor of Destroit, winning the first two elections contested. He served two terms as mayor before his appointment to his first domain government role. He is the son of Charles de Montfort, 6th Kt, former Viceroy of the Duchy of Vescera.

He was born to a minor noble family on 8 December 1961, in Uerna, the capital of the Duchy of Vescera, Montgisard. At the time of his birth, his father was Viceroy of the Duchy. He has one sibling, an older sister. He attended primary school in Uerna, later attending secondary school in Montgisard. When he turned 18, he served in the Montgisene Home Guard to fulfill his mandatory military service requirement. In 1981, he enrolled at Eallasse College and studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Montfort studied law at All Saints' College, in Sydalon, graduating in 1987. He was admitted to the Montgisene and national bar associations the same year.
