Legislative elections are scheduled to be held in the United Provinces of Alsland by 5 April 2023. All 231 members of the Folkssenaat will be up for election. The election will be the first election held following the secession of Burnshire from Fawkhamshire and the first election since 2009 with three blocs competing.

Background

The 2020 Alslandic legislative election resulted in the creation of a minority government by the Progressive Alliance led by Ottila Möller. In 2021, Together for the Republic was founded as a political bloc to compete against the Progressive Alliance and National Bloc. The election is set to take place under the state of emergency declared following the 2021 Yndyk train bombing.

Creation of Together for the Republic

On 19 May 2021, several centrist parties announced the creation of the Together for the Republic bloc. The bloc was the first new major bloc to be created since the creation and later collapse of the Socialist People's Front. Upon the creation of the bloc, the Green Party and The Centre withdrew from their confidence and supply agreement with the Möller government, denying it a majority in the Folkssenaat and sparking fears of an early legislative election. Together later clarified it would not vote for a new legislative election unless there was reasonable cause to hold one.

Electoral system

All 231 Senators are members of 8 constituencies which represent each Province of Alsland. Senators are elected using the Party-list proportional representation, using the Boeri method.

Following the 2022 Burnshire referendum, Burnshire is set to secede from Fawkhamshire and become it's own province and constituency. Burnshire will have 3 Senators.

The table below shows the distribution of Senators between the 9 constituencies of Alsland.

Dellish provinces Swathish and Estmerish provinces Weranian provinces Martish provinces
Province Seats Province Seats Province Seats Province Seats
Delland 39 Burnshire 3 Garz 38 Martiland 20
Middewald 20 Hamptonshire 36 Zittau 28

The election is set to be held on 5 April 2023.
