The President of Tengaria (Tengarian: президент на Тенгария or Prezident na Tengariya) is the head of state and head of government of the Tengaria. The president has control the executive of the Tengarian government, has wide executive powers and prerogatives, and is the commander-in-chief of the Tengarian Armed Forces. The President is popularly elected and serves a six year term.

For centuries, the Empire of Tengaria was ruled by an Emperor, who wielded nominal absolute authority over the Empire. After the fall of Lenovo during the Great War, Simeon Kovachev was named regent of Tengaria, becoming its effective head of state and government during the absence of Dragomir III, and so the first non-monarchical head of state of Tengaria. After the war and against Kovachev's wishes, Tengaria became a Presidential Republic because of Soravian influence, and the office of the President was created. The first elections were held in the year 1935, with the academic Gregori Ervo first holding the office. During the early republic, the Presidents served five year terms and were popularly elected, simply needing the highest percentage of votes. The early Presidency, although nominally strong, was weakened by an often divided legislature and political infighting, and often found himself unable to preform his duties. No President before Dimitri Denov recieved over 42% percent of the popular vote. The political situation worsened over time, eventually culminating in the Tengarian Civil War, which saw two Presidents, Dimitri Denov and Simeon Radez, assassinated in office, and with Rumen Santov claiming the Presidency in opposition to the government in Lenovo. After the assassination of President Radez, Simeon Kovachev was named as the provisional head of state until the completion of the war.

Kovachev, seeking to restore unity and to prevent the partisan system which caused the Civil War, wrote the Second Constitution of Tengaria, which among other things made the Presidency a much more powerful position than it was underneath the old constitution. The President, among his broad powers, appoints cabinet members, justices, and the members of the Senate of Tengaria, has the power to veto any legislation of the Grand Assembly, must determine and implimate both domestic policy and foreign policy, and also has all of the ceremonial duties of a head of state. There was originally no restriction on the term length of the Presidency and Simeon himself served for the rest of his life after his election in 1958. In 1999 Dimitri Kovachev lowered the term length to six years, but did not impose any restrictions on the number of terms a person could serve. Since Simeon was elected President in 1958, the Presidency has remained firmly in control of the Kovachev Family and the Patriotic Union. The current President is Teodora Kovacheva, the grandaughter of Simeon, who is currently serving her second term.

The President is the head of the Cabinet of Tengaria, which serves to advise the President and to oversee different departments of the executive branch. He is assisted in office chiefly by the Deputy President, who becomes acting President if the President dies in office. The Presidency of Tengaria has been criticised for many years by Eastern sources and poltical opponents for its de facto hereditary control, ill-defined powers, corruption and authoritarianism.
