The monarchy of Makko Oko is the constitutional form of government by which a hereditary sovereign, or a designated individual by will, reigns as the head of state of the Empire Of Makko Oko and all administrative territories. The current monarch is Emperor Conall Solis, who ascended to the throne on September 13th, 2019 upon the ending of the Civil Transition War.

The monarch and their immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. The monarchy is absolute, meaning that they hold ultimate and absolute authority over all matters of state. This is in accordance with Section 7, articles 24 and 25 of the Basic Rights Of Makko Oko, the nation's Constitution.

The monarchy was unofficially established after Emperor Solis came to power, with the monarchy lacking any hereditary rules for accession, and basing accession on the Emperor's will. This changed on June 20th, 2023, after the enactment of the Crown Act Of 2023 to replace the Bill Of Emperor's Passages. The Crown Act established the Imperial Crown and Family, along with the Privy Council and the role of Imperial Consort. With that came accession by blood and the establishment of male primogeniture, which mandates that males be preferred over females for accession. That date is considered to be the official establishment of the monarchy.

Role

Appointment of government officials

The Monarch is the head of state and government and appoints their entire cabinet directly and can terminate people at will. Typically they will receive recommendations on who to appoint however they are optional.

Immunity

Per Section 5 of the Crown Act of 2023, the Monarch and the Imperial Consort "shall hereby be immune from all civil and criminal liability". The Crown as an organization is immune from all liability and any non-reigning member of the Crown is entitled to full civil immunity. Per Section 1, Article 4, no member of the Crown shall be forced to pay "tax[es] and dues to the Empire, and to any administrative government therefore".

Orders of the Monarch & control over the Law Council

The Monarch has the ability to promulgate Emperor's (or Empress's when female) Orders which are akin to informal statute. They can do anything from establishing regulations to directing agencies to do certain things. The Monarch also controls the Law Council and appointments to it as such. They can call or dismiss the council as seen fit.

Succession

Line Of Succession

Below is the current Imperial Family line of succession (in descending order from heir apparent to the bottom):

* Excluded due to disbarment from succession, but not from the family

** Excluded from the line of succession due to male primogeniture

*** Excluded from the line of succession due to being 70 or older

The current line was drawn by the Privy Council on July 4th, 2023, and lacks any direct descendants. Shall Emperor Solis have children, they shall immediately become the heir apparent.

Disbarred Imperial Family Members

Below is the current list of all disbarred members of the Imperial Family:

  • Imperial Duke Eugene Barnes [Age: 57] - Birth father of Conall Solis (Barred From Ascension To The Throne) [b. September 10th, 1969]

Restrictions & Requirements

For one to be able to ascend to the throne, one must be a direct descendant or blood-related family member of the reigning monarch and not be of or exceed the age of 70, as set out under Privy Council Order #2. In addition, one must not hold any criminal convictions of a serious nature and must prove their allegiance to the state religion before the council. Due to the preference of males, one must be a male, or the chance to become the next monarch is extremely low. There are currently no provisions on non-binary and other gender conformations for the line of succession.
