Safia Taneesha Saadi is a Torlandic politician currently serving as the 15th Prime Minister of Torland since 2018. She is currently the Meðlimur í Folksthing (MF) for the district of Kross in the city of Hjalli. Saadi previously served as the ambassador to Lhedwinic Council from 2012 to 2014 and as the Minister of Transport between 2014 and 2018. A member of the SP, Torland's social democratic party, she was elected as Prime Minister with a vote of 49.3% in 2018. Ethnically Cataian, she is the first female, the first Cataian and the first Irsadic Prime Minister in the country's history.
Saadi has been commended for her commitment to diversity within Torland, and has led many projects denouncing ethnically-motivated nationalist parties within the country. As well as this, she has been influential in attempts to de-escalate the current civil war in the country. She is an advocate for soft pan-Lhedwinism, and a supporter of integration between the Lhedwinic states, particularly through the Lhedwinic Council. Midrasian outlet Esquile de la Libertat named her Woman of the Year in 2019 for "her contributions to global peace and wellbeing".
Early life and education
Safia Taneesha Saadi was born on May 17, 1980 in the city of Hjalli in southern Torland, to parents Anik Saadi and Darpana Saraswat, both of whom emigrated to Torland from southern Majula in the 1970s. Saadi was raised Irsadic and was part of a growing Irsadic demographic in Torland as immigration from Arabekh, Majula and Sifhar began to increase. She attended Knoss All-Girls' Primary until she was 11, where she enrolled in Knoss Central High, a comparitively run-down school in a rough area of Knoss. She graduated in 1997, aged 17, as one of the school's success stories, securing a place at the University of Hafnir to study religious history, graduating with a masters degree in 2001.
Political career
Early career
Saadi was involved in the Irsadic activist group Muridin of Torland from 2003, advocating for increased religious rights for the Irsadic demographic of Torland, who felt they were inadequately protected by the law from religious and ethnic discrimination within the country. Saadi participated in multiple protests across the country, including the 2006 Aubak protests, the largest in the country's history. In 2008, she served as secretary to Marri Annmarrsson, Ambassador of Torland to the Lhedwinic Council between 2007 and 2012. While working as secretary she became known for her outspokenness regarding issues Muridin in Lhedwin faced, mainly in regards to societal discrimination within some Lhedwinic nations, especially Andmark and Torland. To promote awareness for ethnic liberalisation, she embarked on a series of publicity campaigns to raise awareness for this discrimination in 2011.
