Krakborg or Karak Rikkaz in dwarf is one of the three federal free cities that are cities that have been granted realm statues and so far can one also include Sirmeria and Styrelsfastning amongst those realms. What however puts it apart from the rest of the free cities is that it is both subterestial in nature which means that it has to relay heavily from food imports in Vastermark and the rest of the federation.

Geography

The city itself is located in and around a few hallowed out mountain and extends far down in several complex mining systems that marks the outer ranges of the city itself. Outside the city so is the terrain as a result very mountainous and very deep with several passes that where population also have spread out to take care of farmland and beasts as well as several military walls and complex to fend off marauding greenskins.

Climate

The outside of the city lies in a cool/temperate climate zone in which humid westerly winds predominate. As a result so is the realm cold in the winter (−10 – 0 °C), however despite that so can the summers be quite warm and reach temperatures to 25 degrees Celsius.

History

The earliest history of the hold of Karak Rikkaz is sadly lost to history and it is not known when it was founded or by whom just as most of it's early history is obscured by the mists of time. For a long time however did the city state flourish on it's own. However just as most dwarf holds did it's glory days not last and it lost tunnels to goblin and skaven tribes while hold after hold were lost.

Things continued like this until 2010 when the city state declared war on the absolute royal federation over a insult made by a foreign relation advisory flunky they had heard about. This was a challenge that the absolute royal federation did not stand for and three field armies were dispatched and managed to outright crush dwarven army outside the hold which forced their main army to withdraw to their own hold and lock themselves in.

The federal field army that had arrived started to besiege the hold and bring up their siege cannons to shoot down the enemy gates to start the assault the city. However before any hostile action could be taken so did the dwarves withdraw for the city leaving it unguarded which allowed the federation to take the uninhabited city and proclaim it as part of the federation making it what is referred to the three day's war since it only took three days before the federal forces were able to assault and claim the city for the federation.

For months did the federation hold the city and colonisation had slowly began when the dwarfs returned from their exile and in return for their vow not to rebel against the federation either in a passive or violent manner, to support other rebel groups nor to actively commit forms of civil disobedience. To the shock of the current Baron and his men so did the dwarfs accept and were allowed back into the city as federal subjects.

However with the recent abolition of slavery so have the living conditions of the dwarves improved and the realm have put forward plans for a few all dwarven field armies to support krigsmakten and the realm itself have planned further military conquest campaigns against greenskin tribes in the region and there have also been plans for strikes against the dwarven tribes in the east and their fabled hats that the federation have been very keen on adding to their own as well as the oil rich regions they inhabits.

Demographics

The population is currently divided in 95% dwarven inhabitants and 5% human inhabitants, attempts were made to move greenskin subjects into the city itself in the hope of civilise them as a trial but any such attempts were quickly shot down by severe protests from the dwarven public and several attacks carried out by the greenskin resulted in a city wide ban on most non-human and non-dwarven species from acquiring permanent living status within city limits.

Cityscape

Architectural Styles

Majority of the city is built in what is commonly referred to as dwarven architecture with large decorated buildings that are covered in engraved with faces and runes while otherwise being built in very sharp square shapes and often is it very uncommon to include round shapes in the general designs of the buildings.

Growing however is the larger and larger number of Imerian gothic buildings in the growing Imeiran parts outside of the city where a small but growing industrial complex have been established and Imerian colonists have started to settle just as large amounts of men have built farm houses in the former goblin and ork infested plains outside.

Culture and Contemporary life

The realm sprouts a large cultural life as it operates several beer halls and it is well known for it's breweries that can give even the oldest ones in Scandera a run for their money. More so so have there been established several Scanderan theatres and similar establishments that were brought there by Scanderan immigrants.

Tourism

Tourism is very scarce but growing since the construction of the inter federal aeroharbour outside the city proper a while ago. However it is still a very small part of the income of the realm and most dwarves have been very doubtful about any such plans which destroyed the few steps the humans themselves have made to expand it.

Transportation

So far have the city been very lacking when it comes to inter-city transportation so have it historically been rather lacking even if smaller train stations have been built and a larger train station for travel between Krakborg and the coastline in the territory.

Economy

The main income though in the realm comes from the large mining industry and the several finer blacksmithing as armour, weapons and jewellery just as they are also a leading producer of enchanted items.

Law and government

The city is government by a Baron that holds totalitarian powers even as in most cities so is he supported by a combination of merchants and elected advisers by the freemen amongst the population. Recently did that mean the human citizens but until recently so have also a lot of dwarves been elected due to the massive increase of dwarven freemen since the abolition.

Education

Education is as in most federal realms provided by the crown for the public just as there are several free schools established by the richer parts of the populations. However for higher education so is the realm sadly lacking and only recently have a university been created next to the ancient library that were built by the dwarves themselves even if the university have so far not managed to do anything noteworthy.

Sister cities

Krakborg is part of the newly established league of the free cities that is a recent intra federal treaty between Sirmeria, Krakborg and Styresholm to further aid the agendas of the cities within the federation, especially against the larger and more powerful realms on internal matters as any official self serving agenda on external matters were outright forbidden by the high king, and to help each other in times of need. A test that were recently proven in the aftermath at the attack on Sirmeria where both other free cities provided generous help. As such so have the city so far only been made a sister city with the other cities of the league.
