The Socialist Party (Namorese: Сохоитан tr. Sohoitan) is a far-left political party in Namor.
The party was established in NMR 2324, just before the NMR 2325 legislative elections. Along with the Democratic Socialists, it became one of the first parties unaligned with the Liberationists to take part in elections on the mainland. During the NMR 2320s and NMR 2330s, the Socialists gained the support of working-class supporters of democratization in Namor.
Political positions
Economic policy
The Socialists categorically reject capitalism and any modified forms of it, believing that "capitalism, no matter how benevolent it intends to be, is built on exploitation." The party views socialism as a necessary prerequisite towards a society where economic inequality and social classes do not exist.
Socialists support free tertiary education, healthcare, housing and public transportation, considering them "essential human services that cannot be acquired by money."
Considering the working class as the "backbone of Namorese democracy," the party supports amending the Constitution to grant labor unions representation in the Central Council. While it supported the National Minimum Wage Act of NMR 2380 (NMWA), the party is in favor of raising the national minimum wage from P35.00/hour to P105.00/hour.
The Socialists support an eventual total abandonment of fossil fuels.
Social policy
The Socialist Party identifies itself as a radical feminist party. It acknowledges that "considerable progress" has been achieved in regards to gender equality, but true equality cannot be achieved until gender differences are abolished altogether.
The party supports a gender equality law that bans male and female-only jobs and replaces male and female-only toilets with unisex public toilets. It supports recognizing same-sex marriage and the right to change one's sex.
Foreign policy
The Socialists favor a noninterventionist foreign policy in which Namor only participates in conflicts that endanger its national security.
The party supports Namor's continued membership in Cenba, but is wary of admitting new members into the alliance, insisting that Cenba should remain primarily concerned with the security of Namor, Ainin and Toksan.
The Socialists represent the Esquarisceptic wing of the Namorese left. The party urged the public to vote "no" in the EC membership referendum in NMR 2379, stating "it is right or necessary for foreign legislators to pass laws that Namorese must abide by, especially when some of these laws may hurt workers." Among Socialists who took part in the vote to ratify AAECNA, 54 deputies voted in favor, 37 deputies voted against and 20 abstained.
On Namo-Luziycan relations, the Socialists believe Luziyca must return Nantai to Namor for detente between the two countries to take place.
