Humanist Sotirian Union (Dellish: Humanistyske SotiryskeUnie, HSU) is an Alslandic Sotirian democratic and centrist political party. The party traces its origins back to the disillusionment of the Sotirian Democratic Federation in 1987. The party's Dellish Amendist and Dellish Catholic wings both formed two separate parties: the Amendist New Sotirian People's Party and the Catholic Centrist Humanist Alliance. The two parties merged in 1989. The party's two co-leaders are Hilda Schaaf from the Amendist wing and Suwert Jorritsma from the Catholic wing.

Ideology

The HSU bases its ideology off of Sotirian democracy and traditionally represented parties advocating for greater religious importance in government. On the party's founding it adopted new policies based off of the ethical theory of Utilitarianism and to this end claims it does not have an official ideology but follows Utilitarian principles. To this end the party supports the use of public referendums in deciding certain policies.

The party opposes Alslandic membership of the ECDTO. The party bases this view on consistent life ethics which forms the basis of the party's policies. The party takes a pacifist stance on defence and argues that all forms of war are unjust and violate the sanctity of life. The party is supportive of Alsland giving refuge to Tsabaran refugees who arrive in Euclea and have organised support schemes for refugees who have arrived in Alsland, Etruria and Paretia. It is opposed to the usage of capital punishment. Several important members such as Hilda Schaaf and Sjuk Posthuma are opposed to abortion but are supportive of a women's right to choose, the party's official policy on abortion recognises both the unborn baby's right to life and a woman's right to choose as equal rights. At the HSU's autumn conference in 2019 the party adopted an anti-euthanasia platform following the legalisation of Euthanasia in Upper Swerdia. Instead the party wishes to improve end of life care for terminally ill patients by making their final months as painless as possible. To accomplish this the party wants to provide more funding for care at home, hospices and investigating cures and treatments for many diseases such as HIV and Cancer.

The party is opposed to separatism in Alsland which it claims is fuelled by "fear of the so-called 'others' in society". The party has clashed with the Maitiid-led government in the Dellish Community after Suwert Jorritsma labelled the party Xenophobic at the HSU's party conference in 2021. Maitiid sued Jorritsma for defamation over the incident, the case against Jorritsma has been criticised by other parties in Delland who have defended Jorritsma's right to free speech. The HSU supports mandatory language classes until the age of 18 for Alslandic students and are proponents of multilingualism in Alsland.

In terms of economics the party combines support for a Market economy with a strong Welfare state. The party is critical of councilism and unregulated capitalism, although the party has governed with the Alslandic Section of the Workers' International in the past and does not oppose working with the party.
