The Empire of Tengaria (Tengarian: Империя на Тенгария or Imperiya na Tengariya), also known as the Tengarian Empire, was a soveriegn power in Western Euclea, lasting from the beginning of the early modern period until its annexation by Amathia during the Great War in 1930. It was formed after the final collapse of the Empire of Arciluco into the Realm of Thorns in 1835, when the exiled Partriarch of Arciluco crowned the Grand Prince of Tengaria, Saint Vasil the Great, as Emperor. Although it claimed the same universal soveriegnty which the Empire of Arciluco had claimed, it did not claim that it was the Solarian Empire, like the Emperors of Arciluco had claimed. Rather, it saw the Imperiya as being divinely translated from the Solarians, and then to the Amathians, and finally to the Tengarians because of their Orthodoxy and adherence to God's Will. The founding of the Empire corresponded with the beginning of the Tengarian Renaissance, and saw Tengaria's greatest extent of influence, both politically and intellectually. However, with the rise of Soravia and other states, the influence of the Empire began to decrease, until it finally fell into the sphere of influence of Narozalica in the nineteenth century. During the Great War, it was defeated by Amathian forces, who annexed the Empire, bringing it to an de facto end in 1930. The Empire was never formally abrogated, and the Tengarian Resistance claimed to fight in name of the Empire, but the Emperor never resumed power, and after the War, the Republic of Tengaria was declared.
