Makko Oko, also known as the Empire Of Makko Oko, is a sovereign state located on an island continent of Evrosia and borders Liberto-Ancapistan to the east. Makko Oko is a unitary authoritarian socialist nation, with a single unified head of state and government, known as the Emperor. The current Emperor is Conall Solis, who is the nation's very first Emperor, and has been serving since the empire's inception in September of 2019. The capital of Makko Oko is Opposh, which has a population of about 450 million, about 15 percent of the nation's population as of the 2021 census.

Makko Oko, as a historic tribal nation, have had issues with poverty levels and the strength of the economy, which, during the establishment of the Republic of Makko Oko, got to the point of a civil war, and led to the current establishment of the Empire Of Makko Oko. In present times, the nation has one of the most prosperous economies of any tribal nation.

Etymology

The name, Makko Oko, was incepted upon the official creation of the Republic of Makko Oko, and is said to be the name chosen due to the settling tribe, the Sun Tribe, choosing a rather tropical name for the nation to be close with the Sun God. There doesn't appear to be any official demonyms for the chosen nation name.

History

1600-1700: The Birth of the Tribe

The Sun Tribe was first recorded in existence in March 1700 through fossil dating of a stone tablet. The language was unique in the tribe, and no other tribe has ever been recorded using it. That language would later be colloquially named Makuri after the name of the nation founded in 1990. Historians cannot deduce how the land was discovered, however, they deduced that the creation of the tribe was a spinoff of the Takas, who would later go on to form Liberto-Ancapistan. The tribe, known as Sunnonians, fragmented off because of an individual around 1635 that started praying to a different god, the sun god, and refused to respect the authority of the monasteries.

Some people joined them and when the Takas told them to stop, they refused and as such banished them for violating their ideals. This led to them moving west where Takas were less in population and then the Sun Tribe was born.

1800-1964: Expansion & Rapid Growth, Republic Establishment

The 1700's were a very rough time for Sunnonians, where historians predicted only twenty people joined the tribe when they left. By the conclusion of the 19th century, there were 130 Sunnonians, fueled by many prayers, sleepless nights and at the time the largest agricultural field in the region. Sunnonians in the 20th century were more focused on expansion than survival, however killing local wildlife was still common. They had went on to build their first city, with remnants of the attempt being found in the modern day, failing due to the lack of experience. Sunnonians took this as the god being offended.

When the agricultural crisis came in 1834, there was very little food and due to pride, refused to ask the Takas for help. Most of the animals in the area were already killed and becoming lesser and lesser. That is when one of the Sunnonians had an idea to eat the weak who couldn't help. Many of them were thrown off by the idea but after trying it, the population went from 130, down to just 50. The Sun God also appeared to be pleased and conveniently, a miracle happened where they woke up to a fully grown field of agriculture and they took that as a sign of human sacrifice to be appeased.

They began on their second attempt to build a city and succeeded, creating what later became Joria, in 1837. Population started to boom again however new rules, the first written source of law for the tribe, stated that you would be devoured if you fled, refused to work or ate more than your share, conceptualizing the first thoughts of Communism where everything was equally distributed. Historians believe that the concept of equal distribution came from the former life of being a Taka.

In 1840, written evidence from Sunnonians showed that a plague had hit upon their crops and had to sacrifice to appease, yet couldn't due to the law. That is where the concept of blood sacrifice came into play. In 1860, multiple cities had spawned and the overall population was booming, with internal trade now existing. The Takas would later try to trade with them but due to a law added in 1861, they had to be refused because all non-tribal trade was prohibited due to their faith not aligning. Some switched over and joined the Sun Tribe due to worsening conditions in the west. By the end of the 19th century, the law on non-tribal trade was repealed and the concept of the courier came to be.

By 1915, the first concept of a modern bill of rights was conceived, guaranteeing the right of fair trade, movement and employment. This bill would be expanded upon over the years, adding more modernized rights still in existence today, including the freedoms of speech and protection. One major problem that the tribe failed to resolve was who had the authority to amend it? That question was left unsolved for decades and led to the Sunnoites War after a corrupt tribe and propaganda in 1940, five years before the Liberto-Ancapistan Alliance, attempted to revoke the majority of rights, and only guaranteed rights to those who passed the "blood ceremony". The tribe splintered off, and before where each tribal city had semi-independence, they now sided with purists, those who want to get back to their roots and then atheists, those who wanted to abolish the Sun God entirely and forbid religion.

The war wouldn't end until 1946, when the atheists successfully drove the purists out and repealed the bill of rights. They believed that all tribes should be fully independent, which up to now they hadn't been. They had been under a pseudo-state. Some cities maintained the Sun God while others abolished it and mandated no cruel punishment for all. The Great Santian War in 1950 led to another conflict, where a fleeing populace seeking refuge were discriminated against and attacked, even some cities were shocked. Cities took sides on the conflict and fought one another, with one city in particular even joining the war to help fight Santia. After the conclusion of the war, the city was invaded and everybody executed.

In the lead up to 1964, the tribes had gotten together numerous times to attempt to form a government after the union of Liberto-Ancapistan in 1955, with some of them leading to brawls including the infamous Kalaigh Meeting. Each brawl was over the same agenda, government structure and religion. The Meeting of Raichon accomplished what the other meetings did in great significance, and a Constitution was officially ratified on July 30th, 1964.

Geography

Biodiversity

The land of Makko Oko has quite a lot of species, including the state animal and state protected, Phoenix. Many other animals, such as the Anaconda Snake, do exist in the wild, mainly in forests that aren't disturbed, such as national parks and forests, with some types of animals being hunted, but for the most part, no animal in Makko Oko is in threat of extinction, given the legal ability to consume human meat in comparison to animal meat that could be obtained via hunting.

Fishing is a quite common activity within the nation, with the Makkonian Stunning Red Fish being the one looked for the most by fishermen. The fish in question can taste very similar to pork when done just right, however, most fishermen are mainly hunters looking for the fish as a trophy. The Stunning Red Fish is considered by some to be the unofficial Makkonian state fish, and sadly, it is becoming a rarer species of fish due to how beautiful it looks and how many poachers and fishermen are swiping them up yearly.

Climate

The climate of Makko Oko is quite tropical, given their placement and status as an island nation, with temperatures in the summer months reaching upwards of 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with typical temperatures elsewhere being in the mid to upper 60's Fahrenheit during all other times of the year. Climate change has worried the current government of the empire, and thus environmental laws and regulations have been enacted throughout Emperor Conall Solis's tenure.

Politics

Politics in Makko Oko is quite intriguing, but nowadays is a mostly deadzone with many citizens not caring. According to the 2021 Census, apathy for politics within the Makkonian government was about 62 "I don't care" responses per 6 respondents, with a major increase in those responses predicted to hit in the next census report. The reason for the political apathy is due to the fact that Makko Oko is a unitary socialist authoritarian system, and as such has only a single centralized government, the national government, with provinces and states not existing, and cities not being allowed any power whatsoever. All power is consolidated into the Emperor, who is the head of state and head of government, and whoever they designate.

Emperor

1st Emperor Conall Solis

The position of the Emperor was incepted upon the end of the Civil Transition War in September of 2019, with Conall Solis being voted up to take the reigns as the empire's very first Emperor and head of state since the war. No powers and structure of government were officially established until July of 2022 when a revision to the Basic Rights (the Constitution of Makko Oko) was made. The Emperor, being both the heads of state and government, represents Makko Oko internationally and additionally, due to the Emperor's seemingly limitless power, they are seen as a dictator, one who can only be removed through unlawful means.

The title of Emperor is passed down hereditarily as stipulated in the Crown Act of 2027, with a clearly defined line of succession managed by the Privy Council. Males are preferred to ascend by law, making an Empress a once-in-a-lifetime affair.

Law and criminal justice

Makko Oko follows the common law legal system of court precedents along with established statute and pieces of legislation, and in addition to that, does have an established Constitution, known as the Basic Rights of Makko Oko, that is setup to guarantee certain rights, establish government processes, etc. The empire, for a period between 2019 to 2022, had no official constitutional document, but instead, had the Governance & Constitution Act, which until the enactment of the Basic Rights, acted as the nation's unofficial Constitution.

Much of the legal system is made up of the Republic's laws, with ones enacted by the Empire replacing the effective ones that the Republic held, and the process of legal conversion is taking years to complete. Some of the Republic's laws, the Emperor has chosen to not let take effect due to its significance as a violator of the Emperor's morals etc., even though there's no suitable replacement.

It had established much of what the Basic Rights had, except it was much more descriptive and gave much more constitutional power to judges and law enforcement.

Foreign Relations

Makko Oko maintains relatively good, if not great, relations with most nations, having embassies established in each nation and ambassadors assigned. The Makkonian Government, while wanting to expand its territory, has not resorted to any expansionist agenda within the empire's history, instead, wanting to take advantage of wars and claim territory more friendly.

The closest allies of Makko Oko are considered to be the Controlist Ferwerter Union and any other authoritarian nation within its contact. However, Exsorcial, while also an authoritarian nation, is not liked by the Makkonian Government, even resorting to declaring legal genocide against any civilians of their nation that step foot on their soil.

Military

The military of Makko Oko is an all-voluntary force with an air, naval, army and special branch. The air branch contains the Emperor's Liberation Air Squad, with the naval branch being the Emperor's Liberation Sea Squad, the army branch being the Emperor's Liberation Army and the special branch containing multiple military forces within it, those being the Emperor's Special Cyber Warfare Commandant and the Emperor's Liberation Tactical Operations Forces.

Military service in Makko OKo is one way to gain citizenship in the nation, being considered to be one of the fastest ways to obtain it. To obtain citizenship via military service, you have to have served at least 5 years generally or 1 year during wartime and you must have a honorable discharge, with any other form being forbidden.

Economy

Agriculture

Makko Oko has beautiful and perfectly harvestable pieces of land all over the nation that are unbought and unused. Those pieces of land are becoming rarer with expansion and exploration efforts continuously happening by the government, however, they are perfect fields of grass, and some of the best land to harvest and do agriculture on, are the lands right by the ocean, due to the nearby water tending to crash up to the rocks and hitting the top soil near it. There are additionally, lands that are just covered by big, lush, forests, and those are also great for agriculture, but are not as good as the land near the water.

Energy

Energy is a constantly changing venue within the nation, with nuclear power being largely legal for much of the empire, but after the Oil Spill Of 2022, nuclear power was declared illegal, and environmental law was tightened and expanded. Wind farms and hydropower are the two biggest sources of power within the nation, with power plants being the third, but decreasing in numbers by the day, being replaced by other forms of renewable energy.

Infrastructure

Makko Oko is made up of roads and highways, with rail infrastructure also existing throughout the biggest cities from when the nation was first developing. Travel by rail has been on a steady decline for decades, with the entire infrastructure inevitably being sold off to Anayvaii in 2015. Subways are non-existent, but are being considered for development within the nation. Public transport within cities and especially in rural areas is predominately controlled by private companies, with the Empire having a hands-off approach to transport infrastructure. The only exception to that are local cities that decide to run their own public transportation system.

GDP Changes

Makko Oko's GDP in 2023 was $211 billion. In 2024, its GDP grew by 4.2% to $219.9 billion. The following year in 2025, GDP growth slowed to 3.5%, reaching $227.6 billion, due to increased regulations being effected on industries by the government. However, in 2026 the economy rebounded with a 5.1% expansion, taking GDP to $239.2 billion due to increased purchasing power and consumer rights, along with the slower movement of increased regulations. Finally, in 2027 GDP growth moderated again to 3.8%, with the total GDP reaching $248.3 billion.

Demographics

Metropolitan cities and Urban areas

Religion

The tribe's roots are deeply embedded in Christianity. The Republic Government stomped out those sentiments rather well until the Empire mandated the practice of the faith over 20 years later with the enactment of the Universal Religions Charter of Makko Oko. About 30-40% of the nation are declared Christians with the rest being undeclared or atheists.

Languages

Makko Oko is made up of 2 languages, English and Makuri, with English being the dominating language of the nation.

Health

The health system in Makko Oko had been largely unchanged for a long time, mainly being private healthcare during the republic and then when the empire was established, the private healthcare turned into state-private healthcare, where the private healthcare industry got authorization from the government to operate, which was not previously required. Upon the enactment of the Life Security Act, everything had changed, with private healthcare being essentially abolished completely and authorizations even stricter for anybody who still wished to operate, and a state-ran public healthcare system had been established, named MakCare.

Many people consider this system to be universal healthcare, which many nations lack, however, Makko Oko's system comes with a catch. Anybody eligible for healthcare is legally mandated to obtain it, additionally, the universal healthcare system is not free, with not only taxes having to be paid, but also a monthly, or yearly, payment to keep the plan that's chosen.

Education

Education in Makko Oko is compulsory and free if you attend a state school in lieu of a private school. All Makkonian citizens from the earliest age of development to the age of 18 must attend Makkonian schools, rather it's a state school or private school. There are 4 schooling levels within the nation:

• Early Primary (Grades Kindergarten through 6th)

• Upper Primary (Grades 7th through 9th)

• Secondary (Grades 10th through 12th)

• Tertiary (College and university education)

Under the education system of Makko Oko, pre-kindergarten is not offered at any school, state or otherwise, and the unique naming scheme is seen as a way for children and parents to more easily remember their schooling level. Private schools in the nation are obligated to follow all laws and regulations regarding education and are also subjected to curriculum oversight and review by the Ministry Of Education & Propaganda.

Culture

Cinema

Movies in Makko Oko are quite strict, with any form of nudity or blatant actions considered hostile to the government being banned from distribution or production within the nation. Surprisingly, this does not stop world-famous movies from being distributed, and neither does it stop domestic production of movies, with which have even more scrutiny than international movies.

Sports

Any contact sports in the nation are forbidden in the nation, and have been since 2021. The Makkonian Government declared that contact sports were a "danger to public safety and must be quashed", with safer, non-contact sports, such as Golf, eSports and Table Tennis, still being allowed, and contact sports such as Football and Soccer, being forbidden. The main and most famous network of sports within the nation is ESN, or The eSports Network, which is a government-supported and funded channel, even in some cases being considered a government-run channel, that broadcasts exclusively eSports matches both domestically and internationally with agreements.

Mass Media

OBC's Current Logo

Mass Media within Makko Oko is subject to heavy censorship and oversight by government agencies. Under the socialism policy of the nation, no private businesses are permitted unless expressly authorized by the Industry & Securities Oversight Commission, and news agencies are no exception, with only a single news agency existing within the nation, previously named OMONN, but recently got converted into the OBC or the Oko Broadcasting Corporation.

The Oko Broadcasting Corporation brought with it, the official instatement and introduction of state-run news channels and TV news networks, which had previously been avoided due to the presumably high maintenance cost it would take to maintain them, therefore draining the economy.

During the rule of the Republic Of Makko Oko, mass media had little to no restrictions, seemingly like censorship was non-existent. This brought about great benefits, but also was the partial reason for the republic's downfall, and during the Civil Transition War, censorship of the media suddenly spiked to levels never seen before in the government. Around 6,500 media agencies existed during the time of the Republic Of Makko Oko, with private businesses being a major aspect of the republic's economy, even if it proved to be fatal.
