Tengaria (Tengarian: Tангария or Tangaraiya), officially the Republic of Tengaria (Tengarian: Република Tангария or Republika Tangaraiya) is a sovereign nation situated in Western Euclea in the world of Kylaris. It is bordered by Amathia to the East, Poliania to the West, and Minilov to the North. Tengaria is located along the warm coastal plains and has a warm Temperate Climate, and shares both a border with Lake Min to the northeast and the Mazdan Sea to the south. The country's geography features fertile plains for farming, thick forests, coastal beaches and cliffs, and rolling hills. The far eastern portion of the Country is the most urbanized, and it is where the capital of Lenovo is located.

The earliest known records for the region was originally inhabited by a group of tribes known as the Proto-Tengars, which are a group of tribes believed to be the ancestors of the later Tengar tribes. Little is known about the Proto-Tengars outside of the artifacts they had left behind. Eventually, they came to share a common linguistic background similar to but distinct from the Marolev tribes to their west and their north, and eventually became known as the Tengars. They were at the far borders of the Solarian Empire, and engaged in warfare with the Empire. It was not until the Empire of Arciluco began in the wake of the fall of the Solarian Empire that efforts would be made to conquer the region. The Tengarian tribes would become a part of the Empire of Arciluco for several centuries, and the Empire brought Sotrianity, civilization and written language with the Pavaric script to the Tengar tribes. It remained a part of the Empire until the Empire's authority began to decline around the turn of the millennium. The Tengar tribes united behind a common chief and proclaimed the Grand Principality of Tengaria, which still acknowledged the authority and paid tribute to the Amathian Emperor but functioned independently. After the collapse of the Empire and the establishment of the Realm of Thorns, the Grand Principality formally split away. However, it suffered badly during the Iconoclast Wars and lost land to Poliania. Over the next few centuries the Grand Principality lost most of its land to Poliania, keeping only the sliver of land east of the river Tarnu. It managed to take advantage of Amathian instability to claim a portion of Amathia's lands, but the tides turned, and after a series of successful campaigns, the capital of Lenovo was finally conquered by Amathia in 1832, formally putting an end to the Grand Principality.

Throughout the course of the occupation, there was an increased sense of national consciousness that arose due to nationalist movements among the Tengarian ethnic groups. Several minor uprisings were unsuccessful. During the course of the Great War, the Tengarians began agitating for independence. With Narozalica making significant advances on the Polianians and growing unrest in Amathia, a young military figure by the name Simeon Kovachev gathered volunteers together to form the Tengarian Independence Army. With Narzolica's support, Kovachev was able to lead a successful resistance movement in the rural regions of Tengaria, at first resorting to guerrilla tactics due to lack of resources and manpower. The movement steadily grew, until finally they were able to take key points, and in 1935 they were at last able to seize Lenovo.
