In 1991 he became the youngest individual to argue a case before the Court of the King's Bench when a senior attorney unexpectedly became ill. Acadami Ardphointe v The Crown, involved a dispute between Acadami Ardphointe, a Montgisene language-school, challenging a Ministry of Education regulation which prevented the the school from utilizing Montgisene over Sydalene for its core curriculum despite holding a charter exempted from a similar, previous rule. The court ruled in favor of the Crown, and held that the school's charter exemption was void due to the promulgation of the new language law. Ultimately a new exemption was granted to the school under the subsequent law. Montfort continued to be employed as a lawyer in private practice until 1995.
