Geography
Alsland is split by the X mountain range which run through the southern half of the country. Fawkhamshire and Martiland both are very mountainous which has led to both provinces having low populations but economies with large tourism industries. Fawkhamshire is a popular skiing destination due to the dozens of ski resorts in the province.
In contrast with this the remaining provinces are flatter than the south-east with most of the country's population living in the north instead of in the mountains. The X river runs through the country and also runs through Yndyk.
Admission of new provinces
Two provinces have been admitted since Alsland gained independence in 1919. Martiland was admitted in 1925 after previously being merged with Middewald. Yndyk was admitted in 1995 following a successful referendum about seceding from Delland. The referendum was backed by every major bloc and party in the country.
Attempts have been made to separate Wottested from Delland, most recently in 2003 when a referendum was held on the issue, unlike in Yndyk the referendum failed due to a lack of support from the city's Swathish and Weranian minorities. Other prominent movements include the secession of east Zittau from the rest of the province and the secession of the eastern border region of Hamptonshire with Estmere by that area's Estmerish minority.
