The Royal Makedonian Army served as the army of the Kingdom of Makedon. The army served as a principle cause behind Makedon's ascension as the preeminent power in Syara during the 19th Century.
Following the dissolution of the Rioni Union, the locally raised Makedonian regiments of the Army of the Rioni Union became the basis for the creation of an army to serve the newly independent Makedon. The Royal Army stylized and officially considered itself a direct descendant of the Ancient Makedonian army that had served the Makedonian Empire, adopting many of the customs and protocols of their predecessors. During much of the 18th Century the Royal Army was pitted against the other Syaran Successor States during the Syaran Succession Wars, where it earned a reputation for professionalism and discipline. As the Kingdom of Galania began to wane in influence, Makedon gradually asserted itself as the premier Syaran state, thanks in large part to the dominance of its army over its Scitarian and Galanian rivals.
Situated on the coast of the Sundering Sea, the Royal Army found itself occasionally faced with foreign adversaries, most noticeably during the Second Chryse War against the Republic of Górska over control of Chryse. Following the establishment of the Ruvelkan Socialist Republic, the Royal Army was involved in the suppression of several communist-inspired revolts, which eventually triggered an invasion by the Ruvelkan Red Army. The subsequent Ruvelkan-Makedonian War ended in a surprise Makedonian victory, allowing the Kingdom to annex the territories of Zemplen and Imerti back from Ruvelka. The prestige brought about by the victory, coupled with the establishment of the Ruvelkan SR as a clear and direct threat to all of Syara, was instrumental in pushing the Syaran successors towards unification.
The Royal Makedonian Army was officially dissolved in 1875 following the establishment of the Republic of Syara, with Makedonian formations and personnel becoming part of the unified Army of the Syaran Republic, which was heavily based on Makedonian protocols and procedures.
