The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) is an international organization that works to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy by nations. It aims to inhibit the use of nuclear technologies for any military purpose, namely the use of nuclear weapons. The AEC was established as an independent organization on 31 May 1959 after a series of successful tests by the worlds emerging nuclear powers. While it is officially independent, the AEC maintains an affiliation with the Community of Nations. The AEC's reports are issued to both the International Assembly and the Security Committee.
