The Namorese presidential election of 2005 was held on March 18, 2005. The incumbent President-General, Kaitlyn Kan of the Democratic Socialists, was eligible to run for reelection.

Several factors led analysts to call the 2005 election a realigning election; the election saw the meteoric rise of the center-right New Democrats, represented by Fu Wen, a known businessman and philanthropist. This, along with already-existing dissatisfaction with the Kan administration, caused the DemSocs to lose support, particularly in the eastern Namorese coast, which had long been a DemSoc stronghold due to widespread support for political reforms among voters in the area.

Fu won the election by a landslide, winning 55.8% of the popular vote, while Kan won 23.2%. The Liberationist candidate, Txotai President Vang Jun, garnered 20.9% of the vote - the worst performance for a Liberationist candidate in electoral history.

International reaction

  •  Luziyca: The first official statement in reaction to the election of Fu Wen came from the government of the Republic of Nantai's leader, Rybak Sawyer, expressing "sincere hopes that his excellency, Fu Wen and his excellency, Prevayu Brouvayeshki come to an agreement regarding the Republic of Nantai, so that we can harness our potential to become a major hub of world trade instead of only being known for the territorial dispute, but without having to adopt the socialist policies." Following that, Luziycan president Brouvayeshki wished Fu "the best of luck in administering the country and improving its standard of living." Like Kung, Brouvayeshki wished that as President-General, Fu will cooperate with Luziyca to resolve the Nantai territorial dispute and other long-standing issues.
  •  Xiaodong: The election of Fu Wen saw First Minister Yuan Xiannian make a surprise announcement where he stated that as Namor had "shed "de facto" state communism" and that Fu was "committed to regional peace in a way previous Namorese leaders were not" Xiaodong would recognise the People's Republic of Namor having recognised the Peitoan-based republican government as the sole government of Namor since the Namorese Civil War.
