Nordomark is one of the earliest Scanderan colonies dating back to the 11th century and all the old realms with the exception of Karmanjaka that lacked any great naval presences. The original reasons for the colonies was to secure trade routes with Ramir and Chanjing and to secure the sea routes for silk, spices and other exotic goods that the two territories in Österled offered.

Geography

The Northern parts of Nordomark is mainly filled with large open fertile fields and one can find large farmland stretching out as far as the eye can see. The land itself is rather flat with little to no elevation except in the south east where one can find slightly more mountainous terrain. However so are there also ends to the large fields as the eastern central border region of the realm is covered in thick forests and soggy marshes having historically made that region hard to colonise. The highest point is Dasmarkskullen (Dasmark's Hill) at 305 metres, and the lowest point is on the coast at sea level. The average elevation of Nordomark is 110 m above sea level.

Climate

The climate features mild to cold winters, with average January temperatures ranges from −1 °C in southeast to −8 °C in northwest, and cool and moist summers with an average temperature of 18 °C. Nordomark has an average annual rainfall of 550 to 700 mm.

Flora and fauna

The flora in the realm is mostly consisting of large fields of grass and wildflowers but one can also find large mixed forests where both pine and leaf trees grows freely. The fauna consists of mostly of insects but the larger animals entirely consists of birds and mammals. The smaller mammals include smaller rodents like rats and mouse but also other animals like shrews, moles, hedgehogs, hares and rabbits. One can also find larger animals like vinzens and wild horses there though and the largest predators are the brown bears even if smaller ones like wolves, lynxes and foxes also exists.

Culture

Culturally so are the colonists living in the realms still very similar to their Scanderan cousins with zones of Imerian, Vedian and Jarnföda. However so are the Imerian culture zone the largest one. The realms have however not produced many great writers, singers or poets but several painters and sculptors have come from this realm. The realm was however important for developing several weapons that were later on implemented in Scanderan armies. For instance so were it from here both the earlier crooked cavalry swords as well as the so called "Kugle lans" or "sphere lances" came from with an thick ball of metal attached to the lance just before the finest part of the lance itself near the handle. This allowed the lance to break upon contact with the enemy and it could be used as a mace in melée.

History

The realm has historically been known for it's trade connections with österled and it's harbours were very wealthy even if the commoners outside the cities were as poor as those in the mainland.

The colonies also produced several good cavalrymen that fought in several conflicts in the mainland and according to legend were the first horses brought over from Nordomark to Scandera even if that event pre-dates the colonisation of Nordomark by centuries.

During the two hundred years war did the colonies suffer extensively as trade decreased and naval traffic were lost as piracy increased amongst the trade lanes and more and more ships were used for military operations.

Similarly were there fierce fightings in the colonies themselves as the colonial nobilities took the chance to conquer more land in their kings and houses names. When the war drew to an end however so did things start to brighten up, the conquest of Suderland and with Jarnarna joining the war did the east coast stabilize enough to make sea travel safer and quickly did the colonies quickly started to grow once again.

It did however take more than a century to repair the damage caused as large amounts of land had been abandoned and conquered by both Ramir and by Salonia tribes. This later resulted in the casus belis against Ramir.
