Novi'isida is the least populous of the four main islands of Garetolia. It was discovered in 1767 by Portuguese explorer Pedro Fernandes de Queirós when he and his crew noticed a ritual bonfire in the distance. Since the late 1800s, Novi'isida has been the least populated island of Garetolia due to its harsh terrain that the rest of the nation does not have to offer. As of 2019, there only live 1,689 people on the island, about half of which live in the largest city, Sar'aka.


Etymology

The name "Novi'isida" is a portmanteaux of the Garetolian words novi'is (new) and sida (sand, terrain).

History

Prehistory

Pottery from about 800 years ago indicates that Novi'isida was likely inhabited by a different group of Polynesians than the rest of Garetolia, possibly by the Maori people.
