The 1998 World Cup, also called the 1998 Vongane World Cup, was an international football tournament contested by men's national teams which took place between 11 April to 18 April, 1998 in Vongane, Quetana. It was the 2nd World Cup held in Vongane, the previous being in 1984. The tournament phase involved 32 teams, of which all came through qualifying competitions at the start of the event from an original 64 national teams. At the time, it was one of the most watched sporting events in the history of the world.

31 national teams advanced through qualification competitions to join the host nation in the final tournament, with a total of 64 matches played in 5 venues, with three located in Vongane, one in Ledua, and one in Albate. In the final match, Alcarres defeated Drambenburg 2–1. The host nation, Quetana, made it to the semi-finals but lost to Alcarres, and then subsequently lost to Paraboca in the third-place match.

64 competing countries were divided into eight groups of eight teams (groups A to H). Teams in each group played one another in a round-robin best two-out-of-three, with the top four teams advancing to the knockout stage with the Round of 32.
