The Armed Forces of Vardana is the military of Vardana. All military and security forces fall under the command of the Directory, with limited oversight capabilities subject to a permanent National Convention committee. In practice, the Director-General serves as the commander-in-chief, with the Directory collectively serving as another layer of oversight.
The Armed Forces are composed of the Army, Vardanan Navy, Air Force, and the Republican Guard. The Vardanan Navy maintains small marine infantry and air force, while the Republican Guard operate minor air and naval forces as well. The Vardanan Coast Guard is not officially an agency of the Armed Forces, and instead falls within the Ministry of the Interior and is operated by the Republican Guard. The Constitution empowers the Directory to order provincial governors and directories to establish militias for territorial defense. As of 2015, these forces have received increased funding from the federal government.
Women have been allowed to serve in combat units of the Armed Forces since 2017.
