Edæa Æðelynnymya (born Edæa Syrel, 17.01.1993) is a Kouralian adventurer, priestess, and monster hunter who joined the Order of Vigilants of Mystria during it's 2019 recruitment drive.

Early Life

Edæa was born to a joiner and his unemployed partner in the Southern Kouralian city of Vyſægher. Early in life her parents split and she had a number of male figures in her life before she was ten - many of whom were known to the City Watch for anti-social behaviour and misdemeanours, as was her mother. When she was two a younger brother Rhyſyart was born.

As she finished primary schooling she began to show signs of similar anti-social behaviour, and was saved from arrest only by her age. Her Mother's behaviour similarly deteriorated, and she was repeatedly visited by the City Watch and Provincial Children's Services in relation to the quality of care received by Edæa and her brother.

In 2004, at the age of 11 she and her brother were taken into care by the state shortly after starting secondary education. This was because their birth mother and only suitable living relative was arrested and imprisoned for Child Neglect and being concerned in the supply of narcotics. Edæa was moved between a number of care homes as her behaviour continued to deteriorate and they found it difficult to manage her behaviour. At 14 she received a conviction for Assault and Criminal Damage following failure by less formal measures to curb destructive tendencies.

However the court imposed a requirement to engage with local charities and groups who could provide counselling, constructive activities and direction to the lives of young people. There she met Anyæl Æðelynn, a Ðyacos or priest, and husband of Vyſægher Hundred councillor Derelæ Æðelynn. His influence drove Edæa to immerse herself in the Æhrycredan faith and the sub-cultures of the Feivienas. Over a few short years Edæa's descent into criminality was halted, as she became more and more devout a follower of the Æhrycreda. She continued to grow close to the Æðelynn family and acted as an informal novice at Anyæl's temple during services, along with accompanying him on expeditions to resolve Fae-disputes. In March 2009, when she was 16 the Æðelynn family began to foster her alongside their older daughter, Amyna.

On her 18th birthday in 2011, Edæa was formally adopted by Anyæl Æðelynn and took the name Æðelynnymya.

Religious Life

In September 2009, at the age of 16 Edæa was accepted as an Apprentice Novice Guardian by her local Collegiate Sacorum. As with most Apprentices, this was a low-paid employment combined with education for a fixed term of two years. On the one hand she would perform basic administrative, manual, and ritual tasks for the Guardians of the Sacred Way; on the other hand she continued to receive general education, training in thaumical wisdoms, and specialised faith-based education.

Fortunately, due to the Vyſægher Collegiate being close to her foster-family's residence, Edæa was able to be a day-student rather than a boarder. Furthermore, by mutual consent of the Master of the Collegiate and Anyæl Æðelynn Edæa undertook her Novitiate duties at her Foster-Father's temple. Despite poor performance in the state school system, Edæa excelled in her studies at the Collegiate and by the end of the Apprenticeship she was accepted as a full Sister Guardian. She also found there were areas of Ðyacosean duties which she enjoyed and was better at than others. Principally this was work which, in extreme cases, was generally reserved for the Ðyacoſæ and Guardians of the Lybræan Order.

In July 2011 Edæa began her studies as a Kalæos, or an apprentice Ðyacos. This involved extensive and intensive study of Thaumistry, scripture and doctrine, and also the ways and means of the Feivienas. It was this final part of the duties of the Ðyacoſæ which had enraptured Edæa during her Novitiate: resolving disputes between humankind and the so-called demimonde of Fei beings. Much of the time this could be resolved through diplomacy, but sometimes only through either ritual or forceful subjugation of one party. In extreme cases, such disputes are sought out by Ðyacoſæ-Errant of the Lybræan Order who investigate maladies, misfortunes and oddness to determine if 'bad luck' has a deeper cause. After three years, in July 2014, Edæa followed her adoptive father into the Kouralian priesthood. Rather than follow him into the community priest role of a Ðyacos aSaghællos, she pledged herself to the Lybræan Order and underwent a further year's training to be granted an apprenticeship to a substantive Ðyacos-Errant.

Edæa travelled Southern Kouralia in company with Ðyacos-Meistaræ Cuædret Medruil, spending almost all of their time in the Forynthryc Marches bordering what was once the Hobbiest Republic. This involved answering requests for help, following direction from the divines, and tracking suspicious circumstances to identify ongoing issues. Once there the Ðyacoſæ-Errant would need to investigate - often without cooperation from local residents, and sometimes while under threat from either residents or Fei. If the issue could be resolved peaceably, such as a homeowner accidentally breaking a faerie ring and being willing to make amends, then they could resolve it there. Otherwise they were empowered to seek orders from the courts to require Kouralian citizens to make amends, should they be in the wrong, or to use magic or more mundane force to interfere with, subjugate, and remove any otherworldly threat.

In September 2017 Edæa was made a substantive Ðyacos-Errant and began to wander Kouralia herself - sometimes working with other priests and sometimes alone.

In Early 2019, on her 26th Birthday, Edæa was visited by XYZ divinity in a vision, encouraging her to apply her talents to another people and another land. She did not understand the true meaning of this, so first she travelled to the gradually-growing settlement surrounding JFB Ormerod between Western and Eastern Mystria. It was there that she heard of the refounding of the Order of Vigilants, and knew that was what she was being sent to aid.

Order of Vigilants

The Mystrian Order of Vigilants had been refounded and greatly expanded after analysis of the increased intensity and frequency of megafauna appearances across D'hɑlbrisir and the wider continent suggested that the issue was going to continue to degenerate. To counter this, the Great Civilisation of the C'tan had identified a need for dedicated monster hunters who owed little allegiance to political figures or nations who could root out and destroy such monsters where they were found.

The need to leave the Lybræan Order was passed to her Capoðaine aþe’Ðyacoſæ who granted that she might leave for the Vigilants provided she hold the tenets of the Æhrycreda true to her heart and not give herself up to improper teachings of a foreign land.
