The 2016 Esquarian Parliament election in Vyvland will be held on Wednesday, 6 April 2016 to elect the country's 23-member delegation to the Esquarian Parliament. The election will be held in the same week as elections to the Esquarian Parliament in the other member states of the Esquarian Community. For the purposes of this election, Vyvland acts as one single multi-member constituency electing twenty-three members through open-list proportional representation, in contrast to national elections which use mixed-member proportional representation.

Background

The previous election, in 2011, was narrowly won by the Christian Democratic and Conservative Party (KDC), then in opposition domestically but now the main party in government. That party is expected to be looking for a gain in seats due to more favourable polling domestically in the months before the election. The National Party is one of the few parties running a distinctly EC-focussed campaign, promising to limit free movement of people within the Esquarian Community and to restrict the number of member states to twenty. Domestically, the party's polling numbers have been flatlining following a surge in the late 2000s, but with domestic anger at the bureaucracy of the EC, the party may be able to make gains in the EP.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Party, which has been struggling in the polls since entering coalition with the KDC after the 2013 domestic general election, is aiming to limit the losses which forecasters have predicted will be almost inevitable. According to Entwerd, voices within the party have referred to a potential poor performance in the election as the final straw for the beguiled party leadership. The Socialist Party will be hoping to capitalise on the Liberal Party's losses on the centre-left.

Among the smaller parties, the Capitalist-Libertarian Party and Greens have been polling neck-and-neck and will both be looking to win at least two EP seats each, while the United Left are campaigning with the aim of regaining the seat the party lost in the 2011 EP election.
