Joint Operations Command, Whitecliff, commonly referred to as JOC, Whitecliff, is a joint CRN-CRAF-ISA base that occupies the island of Margaux in Shalum. Sparsely populated with the majority of its approximately 2,000 inhabitants living in the town of Vassion, Margaux became a point of interest between the two nations during the ongoing renegotiations of the Altendorf Naval Treaty. The amendment posited for the foundation of a southern military base that would be operated by a dual garrison of Cacertian and Shalumite forces.
Construction of JOC, Whitecliff began in mid-1972 and was aptly named for the chalk and quartz cliffs that make up the northwestern portion of Margaux. A trio of runways, a control tower, and a complex of hangers and bunkers were completed in September 1972 with the corresponding naval facilities being finished nearly a month later. As a cooperative effort between Cacerta and Shalum, servicemen and women live in the same base housings and a unique level of camaraderie has developed between the two cultures.
Whitecliff houses the largest extranational formations of the Cacertian military. Although the naval facilities at Whitecliff are capable of basing aircraft carriers, there are currently no plans for the CRN to expand on its garrison.
In comparison to its newer counterpart in Solaris which houses significantly larger formations of AFSB-2 Spettro bombers and AFASF-12 Dragos, the CRAF formation in Whitecliff is considered a more well-rounded garrisson consisting of a variety of aircraft in vastly different roles. In the aftermath of the Arzell Crisis, the Whitecliff Air Fleet received several squadrons of Wyverns to supplement the garrison.
While the forces in Whitecliff were put on alert during the Arzell Crisis, no sorties were made.
