List of overspace routes
Overspace routes, also known as overspace lanes, overlanes, space routes, overroutes, trade routes, spacelanes, and runs, are established paths through Overspace which link major worlds in the Talin Galaxy. These routes are regarded as safe, allowing starships to travel without colliding with a celestial body. Chains of important star systems formed runs, which were vital navigational routes for trade and transit, and such routes could cross multiple sectors.
Star systems can have several or a single overlane entrance/exit point, meaning that such points could be guarded and fortified, and ports of access monitored and controlled. Overspace beacons help guide starships to star systems, refueling stations, and ports, and several beacons can act as guides through dangerous and less traveled parts of the galaxy. The destruction of such beacons can hinder travel to the system.
Major routes
Major overspace routes typically, though do not always, span across the width of the galaxy, or from the core to an outer region. These routes are generally the most traveled and used for a wide variety of commercial, diplomatic, and other purposes.

Minor routes
There are hundreds of minor routes throughout the galaxy that are typically smaller and have less traffic, and are usually contained within individual sectors (or adjacent sectors), or between individual planetary systems. Some of these routes bisect the major routes, and as such are favored by smugglers and outlaws due to their low amounts of patrols and speed that could be used on them.

History
Overspace routes have existed since the dawn of interstellar navigation, with early Core World explorers carefully mapping out passages between worlds that they could easily traverse to make steadier gains into the outer reaches. The Old Union sent pioneering survey teams to explore and chart new overspace lanes with navigational beacons. As galactic citizens from the Core pushed outwards, star systems fought for overspace lanes to be charted through their systems, which brought with them trade, wealth, and prestige. As time passed, the laborious task of traveling through overspace beacons was replaced with new overlanes. As more of the galaxy was mapped, more direct overspace routes were discovered.
In 1021 AHT, the Galactic Union began the Great Overspace Rush to find and map any yet to be discovered overspace routes, with Union Routefinders working directly for the government as Exploration Teams in the greatly unexplored and wild Tampina Arm and Kibos Arm. Private groups got involved in the hunt for new overspace routes as well, with corporations both taking advantage of the rush and claiming systems rich in resources outside of direct Union control.
Beyond the mission to open up new overspace lanes by discovering and charting them, Routefinders were ordered to explore, help those they found, and, in what was a major part of their mission, establish a functioning communications network across the Outer Band and Arms. While creating the network, Routefinder teams often worked alongside comms teams in order to get in contact with the Union at large while out in the Arms. However, the Routefinders needed to establish the network one node at a time. While the Routefinders knew the long-term effort would one day result in communications being as fast in the Outer Band and Arms as it was in the Core, it would take generations. Nevertheless, Routefinders were instilled with the drive of noble effort that would change lives for the better.
