Macatlan Taimetlatl (17 May 1913 — 24 April 1992) was an Andamonian politician and diplomat who, from 1960 to 1972, served as the first president of the Astyrian Peace Organization.

Early life

Career

Taimetlatl served in the Andamonian military as a commissioned officer during the Trophy Wars. After the Siege of Cevrazu, he resigned his commission and joined the imperial foreign service in February 1939. Taimetlatl later said of the war that it "taught [him] to abhor violence in all its forms... that violence should never be used for political ends, any ends."[1]

Taimetlatl's first foreign posting was in Langzen, Heideland, where Andamonia maintained a consulate. Langzen was only hours away from his native Qerikuah, and he was regularly visited by family although he only returned home twice in those three years. He received rapid promotions through the foreign service and was required to travel extensively throughout Astyria within Andamonia's diplomatic network. On one such visit to Marianport, Kelonna, in 1954, then-king Harold III accidentally spilled a glass of wine on the diplomat while at a dinner.[1]

Taimetlatl was Andamonian ambassador to Caranad during the early years of the Caranadian Civil War. He has been credited with helping to negotiate ceasefires that saved tens of thousands of lives.[1]

His work in Caranad brought him to the attention of the Exponential foreign service, and they tried to recruit him to advance Exponent's interests. When he refused, files were stolen from his car and the car itself was set on fire.[1]

Taimetlatl retired from Andamonia's diplomatic corps in 1959, forty-six years old, but remained active in those circles and was in attendance at the conference in Jandala, Polarus, which established the Astyrian Peace Organization in November 1960. Taimetlatl was chosen as its first president.[1]

During his presidency, the APO campaigned for an end to conflicts across central Astyria. It has been argued that Taimetlatl was the only viable first president, giving the APO credibility as an independent body and not simply a propaganda organ for the Empire of Exponent. He held the position for twelve years, retiring in 1972.[1]

Retirement and death

Taimetlatl had an active retirement, continuing to tour Andamonia and give lectures throughout Astyria until he was confined to a wheelchair. He subsequently moved into an assisted living facility in Qerikuah, his hometown, where he died on the morning of 24 April 1992. He was buried in a small, though not private, ceremony in a simple grave,[1] beside his family grave.

Honours

Taimetlatl received the Astyrian Peace Prize in 1972, on his departure from the APO, "for his role as the first president of the Astyrian Peace Organization."

Emperor Ayastoc Abazu conferred imperial honours on Taimetlatl in 1978, 1983 and 1987.[1]
