The National Assembly (Εθνοσυνέλευση) is the lower house of the bicameral Romaian Parliament, the upper house being the Senate (Σύγκλητος).
There are 500 deputies, each elected by a single-member constituency (at least one per department) through a two-round system; thus, 250 seats are required for a majority. The president of the National Assembly, Eustratios Mauros, presides over the body. The officeholder is usually a member of the largest party represented, assisted by vice presidents from across the represented political spectrum. The National Assembly's term is four years.
Following a tradition the seating arrangement thus directly indicates the left–right political spectrum as represented in the Assembly. The official seat of the National Assembly is the Palace of Congresses on the Left bank of the Therma in the centre of Constantinoupoli. Like most institutions of importance in Constantinoupoli, it is guarded by Guards Squadron of Gendarmerie.
