Sasoran nationalism is a cultural, political, and nationalist political movement that asserts that Sasora is a nation and that the Sasoran people should establish a sovereign, independent nation-state. Supporters claim that Sasora has a distinct culture, including the Sasoran language and religion.

Sasoran nationalists are opposed to foreign rule, which they claim is eroding Sasoran culture. Historically, these groups found common cause with Gelonian nationalists, but since the Gelonian War of Independence in the mid-20th century Sasoran nationalists have disagreed on joining Gelonia or forming an independent nation.

Politics

The first Sasoran nationalist organizations were formed at the onsent of the 20th century, acting primarily in unison with Gelonian nationalist groups seeking independence from Latium and Lyncanestria to form a united Gelonia. The Sasoran National Party was the first purely Sasoran nationalist political party to stand for elections in 1925. The party was banned in 1933 and eventually restored in 1961. Further minor nationalist parties have arisen since, all seeking the independence of Sasora from Latium though holding varying stances on politics, such as monarchist or republican groups.

Relationship with Gelonian nationalism

Originally, Sasoran nationalist groups were united with Gelonian national groups. It wasn’t until the 1940s that Sasoran nationalists began to distance themselves from Gelonian groups. Factions that are still affiliated with integration into Gelonia are often called, sometimes pejoratively, Sasoran regionalists. The largest regionalist interest group is Lugenez Strollad, which has the following of a portion the island’s Gelonian-speaking population.
