Silberbauer, Kuznets, & Sokolov spol., often shorted to SKS, is a Durnian defense manufacturing company that manufactures rifles, submachine guns, handguns, and machine guns. The company is based out of Zabevgorod, Meved, Durnstaal with manufacturing facilities in Kavyat, Piva, Durnstaal and Valomao, Navocalco, Vitosium. The company was founded by Eric Silberbauer, Sergey Kuznets, and Artem Sokolov in 1955 as a plastics company before expanding and eventually fully transitioning into firearms manufacturing.
History
Zabevgorod Machining and Assembly was founded by Eric Silberbauer, Sergey Kuznets, and Artem Sokolov as a manufacturing company in Zabevgorod, Durnstaal in 1955. The company specialized in injection-molded plastics and machined industrial parts, mostly for use in manufacturing or power generation. The company performed well during its first several years of operation, growing to 120 employees by 1959. The company stagnated at this point, growing little until 1964.
In 1963, the Durnian Royal Coast Guard began searching for a new semi-automatic handgun to replace the outdated OZ-14. Silberbauer's experience as a weapon's designer in Drambenburg before and during the Aurelia War led him to convince his associates to help him design and construct a new pistol to enter into the running. The team combined the reliable gas system of the scrapped SP1953 with a more modern design and a polymer frame to reduce weight. The pistol was completed and entered coast guard trials in 1964. After several months of trials, SKS's pistol was adopted as the P64 and the company received an order for 9000 units.
The company began largescale arms production immediately, doubling their employee count by 1965. The company received further business from the Zabevgorod Police Department who made the pistol their standard patrol sidearm in 1969. The release of the SP-75 in 1975 and the subsequent development of the SKS Pattern 13 Rifle led the company to fully rebrand as SKS Armaments in 1981. The company opened their second manufacturing plant in 1983 in Kavyat following the Durnian Navy's adoption of the Pattern 13. This led to rapid growth and the company reached 750 employees by 1990.
The completion of the KAZ project in 1998 and acquisition of Sunrise Armory in 2002 continued the trend of steady growth, leading to the company's first foreign plant in Valomao, Vitosium in 2005. The company also rebranded to Silberbauer, Kuznets, & Sokolov spol. in 2005 on their 50th anniversary. Plans to open a second international manufacturing plant have been proposed several times in 2009, 2013, and 2016, but have all stalled. As of 2020 the company employs just over 1000 people.
