The Special Air Service (SAS) is a unit of the Lucis Army founded in 1939 as a regiment, and later reconstituted as a corps in 1950. This special forces unit undertakes a number of roles including covert reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, direct action, hostage rescue and human intelligence gathering. Much of the formation itself has been kept classified and the Lucis government has refused to give comment on its operations.

Tracing its roots to the Lucis Commandos Widely considered to be most elite formation in Eordis, the SAS is the oldest-serving special force since 1939. Having served in over 7 conflicts. Many Commonwealth countries have numerously employed the SAS in certain operations that were often the harshest for a regular soldier.
