The Department of Defense of the government of Thermodolia, is the governmental department responsible for defending the National Republic of Thermodolia from internal and external military threats. Its political head is the Secretary of Defense, and its offices are located in Thermodolia City.
The Department of Defense oversees the Thermodolian Armed Forces and other supporting elements.[1]
The TDOD was established when Thermodolia transitioned from a dictatorship to a democracy in 1898. As the military already existed the TDOD was just the constitutional civilian governance.

The Secretary of Defense of Thermodolia heads the department. The post is considered to be an important position in the government, and usually has a Deputy Secretary. The Defense Secretary is also a permanent member of the National Security Council. Andrea Summers of Libertarian Alliance was sworn in on 15 August 2020 as Thermodolia's new Secretary of Defense.
The Secretary of Defense is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Federal Senate. The Secretary, like all secretaries, serves at the pleasure of the President.
