Gryningsvägen Alliansen

The Gryningsvägen Alliansen, or Alliance of the Old Ways in Common, is an intergovernmental alliance of four sovereign nation states brought together primarily by their having a Monarchical form of government. The

Despite being officially called the Alliance of the Old Ways, the Gryningsvägen has endured a number of erroneous names since its formation. When their nation first joined it, a number of Kouralian journalistic sources worked off of a document referring to it as The Charter of Crowns which led to popular dissemination of that name even though its translation of Khrönornas Privilegiebref differs greatly to the correct title. As a result of this and similar errors in various countries, the colloquial name Crown Alliance has become just as, if not more popular than the correct terminology in common parlance.

Charter

The charter of the Gryningsvägen contains four salient articles which the members agree to abide by.

• Article 1 requires member-states to recognise the superiority of the monarchical system of government and that each crown will seek to protect it within their realms and abroad no matter if it is in the constitutional, absolute or elective variant.
• Article 2 requires member-states to recognise that the government rules either by or by the blessing of it's monarch, as such will all signatories of this treaty vow to defend one another's crowns and the realm of the crown in the case of internal or external conflict.
• Article 3 requires member-states to recognise that the duty of a monarch is to protect and defend his or her subjects with valour and honour, As such does all crowns signing this charter proclaim to outlaw slavery in their realms and to combat it on the open seas. Further more does all crowns signing this charter abstain from killing their own subjects as a matter of policy by their state.
• Article 4 requires member-states to ensure that any conflict between two members is brought up before the council for diplomatic resolution.

Therefore the charter of the Gryningsvägen prohibits any nation being a member if it is a republic or it should impose a republican system of Government. It establishes the alliance as a defence pact with a requirement for all members to come to the mutual defence of one-another's Monarchical Governments: this includes internal threats as well as external invasion. The Charter prohibits slavery and policies of extra-judicial killing of one's own citizens. Finally, the Charter requires any dispute between members to be resolved through diplomacy overseen by the Alliance Council.

Article 3 was only invoked once, in 2013 to reject a membership application by The IASM on the grounds that the policies and activities of that state's government were incompatible with the moral standards required by the Charter.

Article 2 has been invoked on a number of occasions, including the Great Humiliation of 2013 and the Return of Tambelon in 2020.

Structure

Headquarters

Cooperation between the members of the Gryningsvägen is overseen by a central Alliance Council based at the organisation's headquarters in Imerburg. While the Charter was signed by the heads of government of each member nation, the Alliance Council is composed of professional diplomats appointed to that post full-time from each constituent nation. Due to his role in forming the Alliance, the High King of Imeriata assumed the title "The grand defender of monarchy" and became the first honorary chairperson of the Alliance Council.

International Reactions

Whilst the Alliance only requires nations to act in mutual-defence, since its formation various nations have perceived it to be a threat to their security and have either conducted activities suggestive of this view or leaked papers have suggested they hold this view. Many experts on foreign relations in Mystria believe that the Dragon Sea Alliance acts as a counterbalance to the Gryningsvägen, with many members of the former organisation believing the latter to pose a threat to peace in the region.

Shortly after the Alliance was formed, a message was received by some resident of the Grand Hylian Empire of Riemaia. This message ridiculed the High King of Imeriata, claimed that all Human monarchies were illegitimate, and asserted that the alliance was a threat to international peace in the region. Due to the message's author referring to themselves as [A person] of proper royal birth and/or relation, there are beliefs that it came from a member of the royal house of Riemaia.
