A general election was held in Akashi on 27 June 1942. The first general election held after ratification of the Constitution of 1941, it resulted in a landslide victory for the incumbent Yurika Ehara government.

Yurikara enjoyed insurmountable advantages heading into the election, including the public rallying behind the National Union in hopes of lasting peace after the Akashian Civil War, her pursuit of state-driven development being seen as superior to the laissez faire policies that had led to the 1930s economic crisis, and the marginalisation of the opposition parties.

The right-wing had discredited by joining forces with the Great Akashi Army and the left-wing was simply exhausted by the war, allowing the National Union to occupy the vast centre ground.

This would be the first of 8 consecutive majorities won by the NU.
