Akashian economic policy referendum, 1990

Jump to navigation Jump to search

A referendum on economic policy was held in Akashi on 10 February 1990. Voters rejected the Ichirō Kondō government's legislative program, narrowly passed through the National Assembly but vetoed by President Emi Hanamura.

The landslide defeat caused the government's collapse, and anticipated the "red wave" election the following month, where the Communist Party won a plurality amidst strong anti-neoliberal conspiracy sentiment.
