A general election was held in Akashi on 26 June 1954. The incumbent Yurika Ehara government was re-elected with a majority.

The election was nicknamed the "one seat election" (Miranian: 1議席選挙 Ichi giseki senkyo) for its minimal changes: one seat gained by the National Union at the expense of the Socialist Party. This remains the record for least seat changes in an Akashian general election. Another record set was the NU's greatest percentage of votes, at 51,7%.

It is described by some historians as an impetus for the spread of koenkai among opposition parties, still struggling to make headway against NU dominance.
