A presidential election was held in Akashi on 25 June 1960.

Incumbent Yurika Ehara was challenged by a more diverse group of opponents than in the past. This included two electoral alliances — the United Left (comprising the Communist Party, Workers' Party, and Socialist Party) and the National Democratic PartyLiberal Party alliance —, independent Goth candidate Fredegar, and writer and Akashi Renewal Party founder Ayako Sōnō.

Yurikara won re-election, with a slightly decreased majority. This was the first presidential election in which she did not sweep all provinces — the United Left's Yoshinaka Hashi won a plurality in Shimachi.
