<!-- Author's note: Though it might be obvious for some, I still think it is good practice to take this opportunity to disclose that I do not bear or show in any way shape or form sympathy or support for South Africa's apartheid regime, its mistreatment of Africans and other minorities and whatever other crimes the Apartheid regime has committed. The use of this anthem has no political (or whatever else) meaning. For the record, neither does the IC nation of Lindenholt support the actions of Apartheid South Africa, as South Africa does not exist in the Sunalayan universe. For all I care this is a piece of music. It happens to fit the lyrics that were not derived from the original anthem (Die Stem). I only found out after "writing" the lyrics that it would fit perfectly under this melody.-->

National anthem of  Lindenholt
LyricsCornelis de Rood, 1879
MusicAlbrecht Ridderkerk, 1902
AdoptedMay 1919 (1919-05)

Where Sonnae and Kreugel Flow (Dutch: Waar Sonne en Kreugel Vloeien) is the national anthem of Lindenholt. It was adopted as the national anthem in 1919, when a revision to the constitution opened the way for adopting it. The text was written somewhere in the 19th century by Lindian nationalists as a poem. It consists out of three stanzas of which only the first is sung in an international setting. Otherwise all three stanzas are sung. Each stanza has a certain theme that is associated with Lindenholt, the first being about Lindenholt's landscape, the second about its history (referencing the Fifteen Years' War) and the last stanza is about the "young masses" pledging to defend their country.

Conventions

Although there are no punishments for not following the conventions for the national anthem, they are recorded in the Lindian civil code as follows:

  • All seated Lindians shall stand, if they are able to, upon hearing the first tunes of the anthem or at the moment the anthem is announced.
  • All civilians should remove any non-religious headgear upon hearing the first tunes of the anthem.
  • All (former) members of the military that are not in formation should salute the nearest Lindian flag with a military salute
or salute straight ahead if there is no visible flag present. If the flag is directly behind them then they should also salute straight ahead.
  • All Lindians, except for members of the military that are in formation, should sing the lyrics of the anthem as good and as complete as they can.
  • If the ceremony is international in nature then only the first stanza will be played and sung. Otherwise all three will be played and sung.

1.
Waar Sonne en Kreugel vloeien
De noorder zee bruist en stormt
Waar vrede en kunsten bloeien
De vrijheid mannen vormt
Waar velden, wouden, weiden
Als gaarden rijk beplant
De weelde en vreugd verspreiden
Daar is ons vaderland
Waar velden, wouden, weiden
Als gaarden rijk beplant
De weelde en vreugd verspreiden
Daar is ons vaderland
2.
Daar stijgen uit 't verleden
De soldaat en zeeman op
Zij hebben dapper gestreden
Verpletterd de tiran zijn kop!
Hun goed, hun bloed, hun leven
Met mildheid steeds verpand
Om ons te kunnen geven
Het vrije vaderland
Hun goed, hun bloed, hun leven
Met mildheid steeds verpand
Om ons te kunnen geven
Het vrije vaderland
3.
O Lindenholt! O vrijheid!
U adelt ons gevoel
Wij zweren ook met blijheid:
Uw toekomst is ons doel!
Wij zullen, jonge schare
Steeds onze plicht gestand
Met hand en hart bewaren
Ons dierbaar vaderland.
Wij zullen, jonge schare
Steeds onze plicht gestand
Met hand en hart bewaren
Ons dierbaar vaderland
1.
Where Sonnae and Kreugel flow
The northern seas foam and storm
Where peace and arts blossom
The freedom shapes men
Where fields, forests and pastures
Are planted as rich as gardens
Spreading their wealth and joy
There is our fatherland
Where fields, forests and pastures
Are planted as rich as gardens
Spreading wealth and joy
There is our fatherland
2.
There they arise from the past
The soldier and sailor
They fought bravely
Crushed the tyrant's head
Their possessions, their blood, their lives
Given away with ease
So they could give us
The free fatherland
Their possessions, their blood, their lives
Given away with ease
So they could give us
The free fatherland
3.
Oh Lindenholt! Oh freedom!
Your presence honours us
We cheerfully swear
Your future is our goal!
We, the young masses shall
Forever stand to fulfil our duties
With hand and heart protect
Our precious fatherland
We, the young masses shall
Forever stand to fulfil our duties
With hand and heart protect
Our precious fatherland
