Ascolla-East Ternev, officially United Kingdoms of Ascolla-East Ternev, is a unitary unicameral constitutional diarchy located on the continent of Mu-kal, Greater Olympus. Valley Green sits on the other side of the Channel of Cobalt from Ascolla-East Ternev.
Ascolla-East Ternev came into being when Ascolla and Ternev signed the Fourth Treaty of Aurenia in 1941. Before this, Ascolla and Ternev had been at war multiple times, with Ascolla absorbing more and more coastline until they took what little Ternev had left in 1904. Shortly afterward, Ascolla would descend into a succession crisis, and would change its tone towards Ternev in 1913 with the transition from monarchy to democracy similar to Ternev, and the election of Arwin Summerwind as Grand Speaker on the 16th of August.
Today, A-ET maintains a strong maritime focus, with a large portion of the GDP being poured into the development of Port Freedom and the AETN in an effort to hold on to control over the Channel of Cobalt.

not sure lol
it just popped up in my head, sounded good, and i have no idea where i got it from
East Ternev
Unlike Ascolla's origins being rather natural, East Ternev is entirely artificial, and the origin of which is well recorded. The word "Ternev" was first used in 1723 in the wake of the 1st Ascollan-Escan War to describe the non-Ascollan city-states in a move to create a single cultural identity, and as such strengthen the Escan Confederation in its fight against Ascolla. When the First Republic of Ternev was formed in 1757, all members of the EC agreed to join, but many were still not very keen on following Escan's footsteps, preferring to only half-heartedly assist Ternev in its fight against Ascolla. Many of these groups were located to the east of Ternev (at the time, cardinal directions were inverted (south to north e.t.c.) and would only be flipped to the international standard in 1941), and as such was designated as West Ternev, whilst the groups more in line with the central government in Escan were designated East Ternev.
Over time, more and more groups would come around to the idea of identifying themselves as citizens of Ternev as opposed to just members of a particular group, and in 1936, the last holdouts had (sometimes half-heartedly) declared themselves citizens of East Ternev. Five years later, Ascolla and Ternev signed the Fourth Treaty of Aurenia and formed a union; East Ternev was chosen both as an homage to Ternev's long struggle and eventual cultural struggle to unite the country, and as a reminder that Ascolla had conquered a large portion of land still considered by some as Ternev's rightful territory.

Government & Politics
Ascolla-East Ternev is a Unitary Unicameral Constitutional Diarchy. Most of the political power lies with the democratically elected parliament, which consists of 210 representatives, with each of the 105 municipalities sending two representatives (one each from the two largest parties) to the parliament.
Heads of state are King Zekél VIII of Ascolla and Queen Erminea II of East Ternev. Head of government is Grand Chancellor Ty Rant of the DSA.
As of the 5th of January 2015, the parliament is in a deadlock because no political party secured a majority and a solution could not be found, with the diarchy having taken over until the next elections in October.
