Yavorstrana (Yavorstri: Яворстрана, tr. Yavorstrana), officially the Yavorstri Federation (Yavorstri: Федерация Яворстри, tr. Federatsiya Yavorstri) is a sovereign federal semi-presidential parliamentary republic located in south-western Euclea. It borders Narozalica to the north, Vedmed and Amathia to the east, the Lumine Ocean to the west, and the Mazdan Sea to the south. Yavorstrana's land area is __________ km2, or __________ sq mi, making it a relatively large nation on the Euclean continent. Its estimated population in 2018 was over 62.5 million. Much of the population lives scattered Yavorstri territory, with cities such as Varykino and the capital Yuriatin serving as the largest urban population centers. Other major cities include Iletskaya-Zashchita and Yekateringrad. Historically, it has traded territory with Narozalica to the north through a series of conflicts, the last of which was the Great War.
Yavorstrana initially coalesced around 1000 CE, with the various tribes which had settled across part of the modern country coming under the nominal rule of the Princes of Yuriatin. The Yuriatins would consolidate power over the next century, expanding across more of modern Yavorstrana until the fledgling principality came up against powers greater than the array of chieftains and others which it had faced thus far. They began a series of conflicts with their neighbors, notably the various Princes of the Yavorstrana and other elements in modern Narozalica, entering 1200 CE; these conflicts would sow discord across the various principalities, and saw the Prince of Yuriatin eventually supplanted by one of the Yavorstranan Princes, incidentally called Yuriy I, by 1275. Yuriy and his successors would intermarry with the Yavorstranans, and conquer the remainder, throughout the rest of the 13th and into the 14th CE, at times coming into direct conflict with forces in Narozalica. Much of northern Yavorstrana would come under the heel of the conqueror Nikolai of Lipa, Duke of the Narod', and parts of the country were contended as late as the War of the Triple Alliance.
The Yuriatins would push back the Narod' over the course of the following centuries, culminating in the formation of the Yavorstri Dominion after a coup d'état installed a single ruler, termed Vozhd, Nikolay I Sokolov. Yavorstrana would operate under an effectively absolute monarchy until 1870, after devastating losses during the War of the Triple Alliance sparked the New Revolution which simultaneously deposed the Vozhd, freed millions of serfs, and began the four-year Yavorstri Civil War. The Republic of Yavorstrana was formed in 1875, and reformed into the Yavorstri Federation in 1890; it has remained in this form since then, with a major set of constitutional amendments the only aberration after the Great War in 1938. The capital city is Yuriatin, which houses over six million residents. The President and Head of State is Polina Volkova, while the current Prime Minister and Head of Government is Nikolay Antipov. The legislature, collectively the National Assembly of Yavorstrana, consists of the upper State Council and the lower State Duma. Government has been traditionally dominated by Civic Initiative, until 2002 known as the National Conservatives, as well as spells under the Democratic Union, until 1978 the Constitutional Democratic Party or Kadets.
Yavorstrana enjoys a reasonably high standard of living, though it is on average poorer than its neighbors which are part of the Euclean Community. It consistently performs well on international rankings of civil and social rights, though it has a higher emigration rate than several of its eastern neighbors, and ranks lower with regard to education and health care despite a robust universal healthcare system. The Federation is a member of the Community of Nations as well as the International Trade Organization, and it is a strong proponent and member of the Association of Central Euclean States.
