Prohibited items
It is illegal to bring any of these items into Montecara. If you have any with you, declare them to a customs official and you will be allowed to surrender them. Attempting to smuggle these items into Montecara is a crime and will subject you to arrest and detention.
Protected species
Importing protected plant or animal species or any of their parts is strictly prohibited. This includes such items as ivory, rhinoceros horn, sea turtle shell, and coral. It also includes prohibited articles made from non-protected species such as cats and dogs.
Weapons
Any object intended solely or primarily to cause physical harm to another person. This category includes, but is not limited to:
- Guns, including air guns and replica or prop guns
- Knives and blades except those used for cooking and basic utility purposes
- Striking weapons like blackjacks, brass knuckles, and clubs
- Electroshock weapons like tasers or stun guns
Illegal pornography and depictions of abuse
Images or videos depicting:
- Sexual acts with people under the age of 18
- Sexual acts with or violence against animals
- Nudity or sexual acts if produced without the subject’s consent
Counterfeit or pirated goods
This includes such items as counterfeit clothing, shoes, or jewelry as well as pirated software and audio or film recordings.
Prohibited drugs
Certain recreational drugs and their associated paraphernalia, including but not limited to:
- Cocaine
- Opiates such as heroin, methadone, or opium
- Methamphetamine
- Synthetic cannabis products

Embargoed items
These are items which are illegal to import because of their country of origin or means of production. They include:
- Items made by forced labor, including penal labor, or child labor
Controlled items
It is not prohibited to bring these items with you into Montecara, but you have to declare them to a customs official. It is an offense not to, and if you do not, the items may be seized and you may be arrested and detained. You may also have to pay fines.
Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
- The personal exemption for alcohol is 1 liter of spirits or 1.5 liters of wine or 3 liters of beer per traveler. Declare any alcohol you have over this limit.
- Declare any tobacco you have that is over the personal exemption of 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 200 grams of loose tobacco.
- Declare any cannabis or cannabis-containing products over the personal exemption of 30 grams of cannabis plant matter or extract (total).
- Prescription drugs that have the potential for addiction or are psychoactive should be declared, even if you brought them with you from home. Be aware that many recreational drugs are prohibited in Montecara.
Agricultural items
- Declare any food you are bringing back with you. This includes non-perishable items such as coffee, tea, and spices.
- All live animals must be declared. You must also declare any parts of dead animals, such as skins, shells, teeth, bones, or fur.
- You must declare all living plants, as well as seeds, wood, saplings, and any dried plant matter or extracts.
- Declare any soil as well as any items that are heavily soiled.
Antiquities
Antiquities, cultural property, and items of archaeological significance must be declared and accompanied by the appropriate certifications.
Dangerous goods
Declare any dangerous goods, including hazardous chemicals, biohazards, or radiation sources.
Gambling devices
Declare any slot machines, roulettes, video gambling machines, or other gambling devices. Playing cards and dice may be imported for personal use.
Money and monetary instruments
You are allowed to bring any amount of cash and other monetary instruments with you into Montecara. You must declare the total value of all the monetary instruments you have with you, though, if their value exceeds Ł50,000. This includes cash (from any country) and fixed-value notes like traveler’s cheques, bank drafts, bearer bonds, and money orders.
Visa policy of Montecara
Visas
For citizens of most countries, a valid visa is required for entry into Montecara.
Travelers who do not qualify for a visa waiver must apply for a visa at a Montecaran diplomatic mission abroad. The fee for a visa application varies from Ł250 to Ł7,500 depending on the type applied for.
Valid travel documents
Montecaran visas are affixed only on valid passports of Community of Nations member states and travel documents in passport form issued by certain international organizations. Passports or other travel documents of unrecognized or partially recognized states are not accepted.

Visa exemptions

- Montecara: Montecaran citizens can always, as of right, enter Montecara without a visa.
- Passport and visa-exempt
- Euclean Community: Citizens of EC countries can enter Montecara without a visa or passport; a national identity card stating citizenship is sufficient. Visits are limited to 180 days in any 365-day period for personal or business reasons; employment or study require the appropriate visas and a valid passport.
- Visa-exempt
- Community of Nations: Officials of the Community of Nations carrying a valid laissez-passer and on official business.
