The 2021 West Miersan presidential election is an election taking place in West Miersa. Taking place on the same day as the 2021 West Miersan parliamentary election, the presidential election is the first presidential election to take place after the passage of the Third Amendment to the West Miersan constitution which made West Miersa a unitary state presidential republic as opposed to a federalism semi-presidential republic.

(TBC)
The Euclo-Imaguan population, on the other hand, is an umbrella term used to refer to the population of Euclean descent. The two largest Euclo-Imaguan groups are Etrurian-Imaguans, who are descended from Etrurian migrants, and comprise 15% of the national population (195,976 people), and Estmerish-Imaguans, who are descended from Estmerish migrants, who comprise 2% of the national population (26,130 people). The remaining 5% of the Euclean population (65,325 people) come from a wide variety of ethnic groups, with the most prominent of these being the Emessan and Swedish people-descended individuals.

Background
As of the 2011 census, 18% of the population belong to other ethnic groups, mostly deriving from immigrants from both Coius and the Asterias, with the largest immigrant population, the Coian-Imaguans (historically Gowsa), comprising 8% of the population, or 104,520 people, followed by the Senrians comprising just 4% of the population, or 52,260 people. Only 0.5% of the population, or 6,532 people, are native Imaguans.
As per tradition, elections in West Miersa take place every five years on the first Monday of September. Thus, the date for the 2021 presidential and parliamentary elections takes place on 6 September, 2021.

This election is the first election since 1961 when an incumbent one-term President chose not to run for a second term, as Sylwester Wrzesiński said in his 2021 nativity speech that he would not run for a second term, with Wrzesiński saying that "it is time that Miersa is led by a new generation, one that is young, energetic, and willing to face the challenges that tomorrow has to throw at us, and not be held back by men like myself, who have the potential to hold things back."
Ethnicity in Imagua and the Assimas is considered to be passed down patrilineally, meaning that a light-skinned person can be considered black if the father is also considered black. This has posed a problem with the native Arucian population, whose identity is passed down matrilineally, which may explain the low native population.

Presidential republic
Languages
A key issue that emerged was the passage of the Third Amendment to the West Miersan constitution in October which transformed West Miersa into a unitary state presidential republic as opposed to a federalism semi-presidential republic, and added more appointed seats to the National Assembly to represent the "demographic realities" of the Miersa nation. This was supported by the governing Naprzód, who claimed that the amendment would make the West Miersan government "more representative of what the nation wants" and would "ensure the preservation of majority rule and of Miersan democracy," but was opposed by the Miersan National Party, who saw it as "a naked power-grab to forever entrench Naprzód rule for the next generation" and by the Greens, who said that the amendment forever chained "West Miersa to a new Wojdyla dictatorship, where Naprzód will rule without any genuine opposition for at least the next forty years."
The two official languages of Imagua and the Assimas are English language and Italian language.

Thus, a presidential republic became a major issue in the campaign, with Zjednoczeni and the Greens supporting repealing the third amendment, and Naprzód and the Agrarians supporting maintaining it.
As of the 2011 census, around 73% of the population, or 950,153 people, speak English language on a regular basis, while around 27% of the population, or 352,756 people, mostly on the Assimas Islands speaks Italian language on a regular basis. Only 3,596 people do not use either official language on a regular basis.

Zjednoczeni
However, the most commonly spoken language in Imagua and the Assimas is Western Imaguan Creole, an Swedish language creole language. As of the 2011 census, around 82% of the population, or 1,071,334 people, listed Western Imaguan Creole as their native language. Other native languages spoken besides Western Imaguan Creole and the official languages include Swedish language, spoken by around 5% of the population, or 65,325 people, Senrian, spoken by three percent of the population, or 39,195 people, and Eastern Imaguan Creole, spoken by 32,105 people, or around 2.5% of the population.
In response to this, leader of the Miersan National Party Aleksandra Wojdyla called for a "unity front" against Naprzód, with both Nowoczesność and Razem! accepting the offer. Although the Green Party leadership accepted the offer, the Green Party membership rejected it, forestalling Green involvement in the electoral alliance.

On 12 April, 2021, Zjednoczeni was officially established, although as there have been no precedent for electoral alliances, the National Electoral Commission spent several months deciding whether to register Zjednoczeni or not. On 24 June, 2021, they ultimately denied the request to register Zjednoczeni, meaning all Zjednoczeni candidates would be listed as being part of their constituent parties on the ballot. Zjednoczeni did not contest the decision, although it continued to campaign as a united front, with leaders from the three parties appearing side by side at joint conferences.
Religion
The most predominant religion in Imagua and the Assimas is Christianity, with 93% of the population, or 1,215,050 people reporting that they adhere to some form of Sotirianity as of the 2011 census.

Malomiersa and East Miersa
The largest sects of Sotirianity in Imagua and the Assimas are the Catholics, comprising around 43% of the population, or 561,797 people. After the Solarian Catholic Church, 32% of the population, or 418,510 people, adhere to the Embrian Communion, followed by 14% being Lutheranism. The remainder of the Sotirian population follow other denominations.
On 12 July, 2021, the Lemovician government announced its intention to amend the Lemovician constitution to make the Corridor Security Zone the eighth province of Lemovicia. This was opposed by the West Miersan government, who saw its annexation as a violation of the Arciluco Agreement.

However... (TBC)
Of the 7% of the population who are not Sotirians, 3% of the population, or 39,195 people, are irreligious, while the remainder follow a wide array of religions, such as Badi, Irfan, and Atudism.

Electoral system
Urbanization
Presidential elections in the Miersan Sotirian Republic are done on the same day as parliamentary elections to the National Assembly. Per the West Miersan constitution, the president "shall be elected from the people of Miersa every five years, with each President to serve no more than two terms." Eligible voters are "all citizens over the age of twenty-one years, who have not been convicted of a crime, shall be eligible to vote in all elections in the Miersan Sotirian Republic."

The President is elected via first past the post, with the candidate with the most votes, even if they fail to get a majority of votes, becomes President of West Miersa.
As of the 2011 census, 1,228,115 people, or around 94% of the population live in urban areas, defined by the national government as an "incorporated settlement" with a density of more than five hundred people per square kilometer, and a population of more than 1,000 people. Of those, 678,408 people, or nearly 52% of the population live in the ten largest settlements alone, while 809,828 people, or nearly 62% of the population live in the twenty largest settlements.

(TBC)
The largest metropolitan area is the Cuanstad metropolitan area, with 589,922 people, or around 45.2% of the nation's population living in the metropolitan area, with the next largest, San Pietro only having a population of 230,758 people, or 17.6% of the national population.
