Mon. Erwan de Montfort, 7th Knight ChR ChM ChBE CR HC CR PCM (born 8 December 1961) is a Sydalene nobleman and politician. Since 26 September 2019, he has served as Chancellor of Sydalon. He previously served as Chancellor of Montgisard from 2013 to 2019. Throughout his political career he served in various offices throughout Montgisard. In 2012, he inherited the Montfort knighthood and a hereditary seat in the Montgisense House of Lords.

Early life

He was born to a minor noble family on 8 December 1961, in Uerna, the capital of the Duchy of Vescera, Montgisard. At the time of his birth, his father was Viceroy of the Duchy. He has one sibling, an older sister. He attended primary school in Uerna, later attending secondary school in Montgisard. When he turned 18, he served in the Montgisene Home Guard to fulfill his mandatory military service requirement. In 1981, he enrolled at Eallasse College and studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Montfort studied law at All Saints' College, in Sydalon, graduating in 1987. He was admitted to the Montgisene and national bar associations the same year.

Legal career

Montfort career in private practice began in 1987 when he was employed at the Destroit office of an Ostracine-based law firm. Initially he shadowed a senior advocate. During his time in private practice, he specialized in administrative law.

In 1991 he became the youngest individual to argue a case before the Court of the King's Bench when a senior attorney unexpectedly became ill. Acadami Ardphointe v The Crown, involved a dispute between Acadami Ardphointe, a Montgisene language-school, challenging a Ministry of Education regulation which prevented the the school from utilizing Montgisene over Sydalene for its core curriculum despite holding a charter exempted from a similar, previous rule.

Sydalene (sydalas) is a Latinic language native to Sydalon. It has approximately 14 to 15 million speakers, and holds official language status in Sydalon.

Sydalene is part of the Scipian Latinic branch, a linguistic group that descends from Vulgar Latin. Though the only extant Latinic language remaining of the Scipian branch, Sydalene has drawn influences from numerous languages, both Latin-based and non-Latin based alike, particularly Aradian, Audonian, Hebrew, and primarily Latin.
