Fort Anfree, officially the City of Fort-Anfree, is the most populous city of Gagium and the capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Rachelia. The city proper covers approximately 2,300 square kilometers and contains a population of roughly 6,175,000 people. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of the Eastern Corridor and is the largest economic center of the entire nation of Gagium, serving a critical role in trade within the nation. The Fort Anfree Metropolitan Area is home to well over 10 million people, making it the most populous in Gagium.
Etymology
The exact etymology behind Fort-Anfree is unknown, but scholars and anthropologists have proposed numerous theories as to the naming behind the city founded in 1134. The most widely accepted theory is that Fort-Anfree was named after the legendary Knight Avanfree, a figure originating from ancient fables and mythology who, in a fabled battle and as a heroic final act, deposed of the Challengers threatening the continent of Stratea. The settlement itself was founded as a fortress and military base far from TBD's capital city of TBD, and as such the relationship with Knight Avanfree might've symbolized perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds.
