After an initial leadership contest between Wassenaar and Alof Oosterbaan, Oosterbaan left the party along with some of the party's local representatives and created Team Oosterbaan. Recently other political parties have opened up to working with the Orange Party and the party is a member of numerous local coalitions although it still sits in opposition on the national level.
