The 22 May incident is a diplomatic incident which directly led to the start of the First Great War. The Furbish ambassador to Pätschlàn, Fabien Monteil, was caught by King XXX having an affair with Queen XXX shortly after XXX summoned Monteil to speak about the capture of XXX. XXX and Monteil then had a brief fistfight until Monteil was pulled away by XXX's bodyguards.
When the León Monarchy succession crisis began in 1912, The Furbish Islands began to covertly support the Santa Bárbara government through weapons shipments. One of these ships, SS Webster Galway, was captured 29 March 1913 by Pätschlàn, which warned The Furbish Islands to not intervene in the crisis. On 20 May, another Furbish cargo ship, SS XXX, was captured. When it arrived to Pätschlàn two days later, Monteil was immediately summoned by XXX. He entered the XXX's room so she could prepare for a meeting, which was where he caught her in bed with Monteil. XXX and Monteil then fought, until pulled apart by XXX's bodyguards. Monteil was placed in [[XXX Jail].
News reached The Furbish Islands that evening and caused outrage among the National Assembly, who were angry over the ship being captured and felt that Monteil's diplomatic immunity has been violated. The National Assembly declared war in an emergency session on the morning of the 23 May, beginning the First Great War, not knowing that only hours earlier Monteil was released from jail on the condition he leave Pätschlàn immediately.
